Every herd has a beginning. For ours, that was Sita Priya.
Confident, beautiful, and never afraid to make her opinions known, Sita Priya holds a unique place in the history of Krishna Valley as the very first calf born into our herd.
Strong-willed and full of personality, she has always known exactly what she wants. She prefers the company of her bovine friends and seeks out affection on her own terms, especially if treats are involved. Never shy about expressing herself, Sita Priya is known to call out to Manigriva when she wants something, carrying a confident presence that is impossible to ignore.
She has spent her life surrounded by those who love and care for her, growing alongside the herd and becoming part of the story of this place.
Many of you may have noticed that Sita Priya has been unwell on and off over the past few years. Recently, her condition has declined further, and we know that the time is approaching when she will leave her body.
While this is never easy, it is also a natural part of caring for cows throughout their entire lives. One of the greatest gifts we can offer is not only protection in youth and strength, but also dignity, comfort, and love in their final chapter.
These days, Sita Priya spends her time resting on a soft bed of straw in the goshala. No longer strong enough to stand, she has her favourite foods available and is being hand watered by her caregivers, and visited throughout the day by those who know her best. Surrounded by familiar faces, gentle hands, and the place she has always called home, she is receiving all the care and affection we can offer during this final chapter of her life.
