This week is National Carers Week (October 11-17), and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to the incredible carers in our community.

We see the quiet dedication of spouses, children and friends who support their older loved ones daily.

Carers are vital to keeping their loved ones connected with our programs and the wider community.

As the saying goes, ‘not all heroes wear capes’.

The October Newsletter and Activities Calendar are out!

It’s the Victorian Seniors Festival this month, and we’re going large with our High Tea on October 8. Head to page 2 for more info on what’s happening locally and across the state, and while you’re there, check out what we’ve got planned for Get Online Week and digital learning in general.

Today is International Day of Older Persons, which is another chance to celebrate our community.

This year’s theme is around longevity, acknowledging that people are living longer than ever before.

We see this every day at Balwyn Evergreen - people making small changes that add up to lasting impact. Whether it’s a regular exercise class or catching up for a social cuppa, we’re here for it all.

Our client Jan Basso is a great example of this - she shares with us the everyday pleasures that keep her moving, connected, and looking forward to the future.

💜 Dementia Action Week | September 21–27

Dementia touches so many lives, yet it’s still something we don’t talk about enough.

With almost half a million Australians living with dementia, and more than 1.7 million people involved in their care, it’s a conversation that matters to all of us.

Sometimes we’re unsure what to say. Sometimes we worry about saying the wrong thing. And sometimes dementia is simply dismissed as a normal part of getting older.

But starting the conversation can make a real difference — helping people access support sooner, reducing isolation and reminding families and carers that they’re not alone. 💜

At Balwyn Evergreen, we believe in creating a community where people feel supported, connected and understood.
