💜 Today is Wear It Purple Day! 💜

This day is about standing with LGBTQIA+ young people and promoting supportive, safe, and inclusive environments where everyone can thrive.

🌈 At Scouts Australia, we are proud to be an inclusive youth organisation that respects, welcomes, and celebrates diversity.

The 2025 theme – “Bold Voices, Bright Futures” – is a powerful reminder that young people have the right to be proud of who they are. By wearing purple today, we show our support for LGBTQIA+ young people and commit to building a brighter, more inclusive future together.

Recently our Joeys went shopping to buy groceries for people in need, in their community.

The Joeys put lots of thought into what they would be appreciated and would fit into the budget they had. But most importantly it got them thinking about others, who might not be in as fortunate a position as themselves.

Well done Joeys!

Thank you to 1st Balnarring Scout Group (joeys) for this very kind donation of groceries dropped off by Daniel today. Your support helps us to help our local community. 🥰 1st Balnarring Scout Group

Today is World Scout Day. You may see our Scouts and Leaders proudly wearing their scarves today.

We thank them for being awesome and making a positive contribution to their community.

⚜Happy World Scout Day!
Today, we join millions of Scouts around the globe to celebrate the founding of our Movement and reaffirm the values that unite us - leadership, community, adventure, and peace.

"Across Australia and the world, Scouting has modernised to remain relevant to the needs, interests, and aspirations of today’s young people. Our youth-led programs, adventurous opportunities, community service, and commitment to inclusion reflect a contemporary Movement that stays true to its roots while embracing the future.

To every Scout, Leader, volunteer, and supporter - thank you. Your passion and dedication empower young people to discover their potential and shape a better world. " - Brendan Watson OAM, Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia

What a wonderful example of a young person giving to, and benefiting from, Scouting. Well done Yehor!

What a wonderful example of a young person giving to, and benefiting from, Scouting. Well done Yehor!

Meet Yehor – a brave, curious 6-year-old who joined Scouts after his family fled Kyiv. He didn’t know anyone at first, but from day one, he’s shown courage, kindness and a love for adventure. With a passion for nature and a big heart, Yehor jumped into Scout life – beach cleans, ferry rides, theatre trips, cooking, crafts and more. Now a Beaver Scout, he’s not only grown in confidence, but has also helped to welcome other refugee children into the group, understanding that his new friends may be scared, lonely and unsure. Last summer, he embraced the outdoors with his family too – camping, climbing Scafell Pike, and even tackling parts of Snowdon and Ben Nevis! ‘I like Scouts as I can learn more English, make friends and have fun,’ says Yehor. He also won a well-deserved Unsung Hero Award earlier this year too. What a star. 🌟

Since returning from Jamboree, the adventures haven’t stopped for our Scouts....

They have ridden almost 100kms from Leongatha to Yarram, via Welshpool on a 2-day bike hike.

Our Scouts entered two patrols (teams) in the Stradbroke Cup, earning a gold & a silver award. The Stradbroke Cup is an annual 3-day camping competition for Scouts across Victoria, where they are judged on their preparation, camp set up, cooking and cleanliness. There were also great activities such as axe throwing, bouldering, stand up paddle boards, laser tag, excavators, a Saturday night disco, and a Sunday night carnival with heaps of rides. Our Scouts camped well and ate well – including pizzas cooked in cardboard box ovens.

The next big adventure was to Top Gear Scout, a camp for all things motorsports, including learning to drive, motorised esky racing and car maintenance.

Finally, they finished off the term with a leisurely night hike of the Red Hill rail trail.

Our Cub Scouts have also had an exciting Term 1.

They started the year exploring rockpools at Point Leo. They have also been sailing with Sorrento Sea Scouts, practicing their riding skills at the local skate park and bike tracks, as well as cycling at Devilbend reservoir. At Easter, they designed and made Easter baskets to put their handmade chocolates in.

Recently over 3 weeks they planned, built and hid camouflaged containers for geocaching, which is like a huge online treasure hunt.

In the latest Bridge Magazine we gave an update on what each of our sections are up to, here are all the adventures the Joeys squeezed into Term 1...

Our Joeys Scouts are moving from strength to strength. Having only formed in Term 4 last year, they are welcoming new members every week!

So far this year, they have learnt about compass points, drawn a map and navigated around their neighbourhood, visited the birds at Balbirooroo wetlands, performed a puppet & talent show, been on a sleepover at Rosebud Scout Hall and tried sea kayaking with 2nd Mornington Scouts. They finished off the term with the hatchet throwing! Plastic hatchets and targets, of course.
