On a lovely Sunday afternoon under a surprisingly toasty autumn sun, 11 eager Intrepids embarked on a bush walk through Langwarrin Flora and Fauna with the legendary Leon Costermans ☀️🌳

Together we learnt the importance of understanding ALL components of an ecosystem starting from the beneath our feet and all the way up to the trees with their beautiful canopies over our heads. And how the interactions of geology and the substrates present can play a critical role in the vegetation that grows upon it. 🌏🪨🌱🌳

Leon also shared with us the fascinating military WW1 history the reserve holds and his historical knowledge of the place from the times when you could still play cricket on it! 🏏😱 But as he said “soil will bring the nature” and with time and the amazing work of people like himself it is the reserve we see today.

Thank you to all who attended and their curiosity they brought, to Leon spending the time to share his incredible knowledge, the friends of Langwarrin F&F and our MPIL committee member Bonnie for organising a great first event for 2026! 🙌

Keep your eye on our socials for our next event! 🔜

What a way to end the year! 🎉
On Saturday after a delicious dinner and bev at Devilbend Brewery the 4 of us headed down the road to Woods Bushland Reserve 🌳💚
There we explored the tracks by dusk light seeing all kinds of flora and fauna.
Once we completed the full loop we realised there was still a bit of time till the torches were necessary so we headed back for a few rounds of ‘what you meme?’ Where we were then blessed with the bellows of the resident male koala in the neighbouring private property 🐨🤩
Once the sun set, we set off again to discover who was waking up for the night (answer is lots of ringtail possums… an interesting observation that we concluded could signal a lack of natural predators ie. powerful owl and impacting euc health? 🤔)
And just as we were about to head home we once again heard our koala bellow a lot closer to the reserve and so we strolled down the track to find him waiting for us to say goodbye 😍
Thank you so much to all who have participated and supported Intrepid Landcare this year! We love doing this and love seeing you all inspired and empowered in your local communities and environments 🙌🌱🪶
We can’t wait to share 2026 with you 🔜

A big thank you to all the incredible speakers who shared their stories and insights on the past, present and future of Landcare 🌱🔜🌳

“Trust leaps carry us over the chasm of fear, that gap between us and the unknown” and at this conference we have certainly all taken a leap into the unknown and we can’t wait to see where we land! 💚

The triumphant return of the Coolart Conversations was held on the evening of Tuesday the 9th, at the newly vamped observatory building in Coolart Wetlands 😍💬

There we gathered for some delicious nibblies and cuppas before hearing from Kelly Smith with an update on her work with the koalas of Victoria. Followed by Lisa Fitzgerald from on the efforts being undertaken to help the koalas we have here on the Mornington Peninsula! 🐨🌳

It certainly was a lovely evening filled with learning and chatting amongst the frog calls loudly being heard from the wetlands 🐸

We cannot wait to see the return of this series with the amazing help of and

The weather didn’t stop this Planting Party! 🌱🎉

On the 7th of September and got together at JC Donath in Reservoir with to start the day off with some planting… however despite the beautiful sunny day prior the weather had other plans 💨⛈️

So like the environment we adapted and for those brave souls who still turned up we had a community connection morning filled with chats, learning, yummy food, warm drinks and a dazzling magic show! 🪄☕️💚🥪

After we had our fill, several of us made our way into .square to keep the party going at the Planting Party hosted by alongside and to experience workshops, music and talks from many amazing experts and artists. 🪹🪴🎶🎨

With our own Zali from MPIL committee chatting with the wonderful Pam Robinson and lovely host of the day about Landcare and the importance of both the ‘younger and older’ generations being involved in their ‘naturehood’ communities! 🌳💚

By the time the day ended our cups were filled to the brim and the sunshine decided to make an appearance in classic Melbourne weather style ☀️

Stay tuned for when we announce the rescheduled date for JC Donath plants 🌿
