At Social Futures, we recognise that a healthy environment is fundamental to the wellbeing of our communities and for that of future generations. That’s why environmental sustainability is part of a key objective in Social Futures strategic plan and why we established our Treading Softly Committee. Treading Softly is made up of passionate, enthusiastic staff members from right across our footprint tasked with measuring and working to reduce our organisation's carbon footprint. Currently, we are working on implementing a waste reduction and recycling project for our offices.

We know environmental problems can seem overwhelming. But taking action, even just small steps wherever we can, is incredibly important, for each of us and for our planet.

Let’s all tread a little more softly… happy World Environment Day.

This National Reconciliation Week, and every week, Social Futures is All In.

At Social Futures, we actively take steps to continually improve the way we work together through shared responsibility, collective action and ongoing commitment to reconciliation.

Through our Reconciliation Action Plan, we’re nurturing our relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and building the capacity of our staff and teams to do this work better. We’re also identifying and increasing opportunities for procurement with Aboriginal-owned businesses, and embedding Identified roles into our teams and programs.

We are expanding the membership of our external Aboriginal Advisory Panel, striving towards our target of 10 per cent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, and supporting culturally safe workplaces through cultural humility training and initiatives that engage all staff.

We are also proud to celebrate and support important First Nations events and initiatives, and continue creating spaces that recognise and honour culture, community and connection.

Every day, we recognise the strength, resilience and leadership of First Nations peoples and communities, and we pay our deep respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continuing connection to Country.

Big feelings can be hard for little people to navigate. Emotional wellbeing skills developed in the early years can shape a child’s confidence and ability to connect with others for life.

Through the Strong Minds in the Early Years program, children are learning how to identify emotions, regulate their feelings, and build positive social skills in safe, supportive preschool environments.

This support is especially important for current cohorts of children, with many educators noticing the lasting impacts of COVID-19 disruptions on early childhood development.

As Sarah Bevan from Country Kids Early Learning & Kindergarten Woongoolba shared:

“We are finding that many of our children experience challenges with reading social cues and regulating their emotions. Programs like yours are therefore crucial in supporting children to fully participate in Kindergarten, build resilience, and continue confidently on their educational journey and in life more broadly.”

By supporting children early, we are helping build stronger foundations for learning, relationships, and wellbeing.
