🔥 Extreme Heat, Fire, Storms & Flooding – Important Safety Message 🔥
Very hot weather is coming. Some areas may be hotter than 45°C. This creates extreme fire danger. At the same time, there may also be strong winds, storms and heavy rain.
This means more than one emergency can happen together:
• Fires
• Power cuts
• Storm damage
• Flash flooding
• Fallen or damaged trees
• Road closures
Conditions can change very quickly, sometimes on the same day.
What to do NOW (before anything happens):
• Download the VicEmergency App
• Check emergency.vic.gov.au morning and night
• Charge your phone and power bank
• Keep phone sound ON (not silent)
• Put important documents together (ID, Medicare, passport)
• Pack a small bag with water, medicines, charger and clothes
• Talk with family about where you will go if you need to leave fast
How to stay safe during extreme heat:
• Drink water often – even if you don’t feel thirsty
• Stay inside during the hottest part of the day
• Close curtains and windows early
• Use fans or air-conditioning if available
• Check on elderly people, children and anyone unwell
During fire, storm or flood warnings:
• Read every warning carefully
• Follow instructions straight away
• If told to leave, leave early – do not wait
• Do NOT drive or walk through flood water
• Stay away from damaged or burnt trees
• Avoid smoke and fire-affected areas
