Avtar is the Founder and President of a cricket club in Victoria. When he tried to involve his children in local community sport, he felt they were not welcomed or given real opportunities, so he started a new club.

Racism doesn’t belong in our game.

Nazeera is one of CMY's Operations Support Officer!

She was once a part of UCan2 as a volunteer and a placement student with us at CMY.

We sat down with her to hear more about her experience volunteering at CMY as a Settling Smarter facilitator.

Read her story here: https://www.cmy.net.au/cmy-stories/nazeera-found-community-through-volunteering/

[Image Description: Nazeera is a mutlicultural young woman who is wearing clear-framed glasses and a colourful head covering. She is sitting in front of her work computer and desk. There is a quote attributed to her that says: "Never underestimate the young person and what they can do."]

Peace, Coffee & Cake 🕊️

As part of Ballarat's Week of Peace, we held a coffee & cake session 🍰 where we asked a simple but quite big question: what does peace look like — globally, in our community and in our homes?

A couple of weeks ago at our last Join Us For Change dinner, we all worked together to create five shared values for Join Us For Change:
🌟Kindness, Connection, Compassion, Honesty and Respect 🌟

We then explored what those values look like when they are actually lived — because our values only create change when they become actions.

Thank you to Hannah's Voice and For Baby's Sake for joining us as guest speakers, and sharing how peace looks across different programs 🩵

💬Comment bellow - what does peace mean to you?

What happens when multicultural young people are given a genuine role in research? 🔎

They bring their experiences, perspectives and ideas to help shape research that affects their lives.

Here’s how we’ve been supporting this in action recently:

📚 Alex, Edmee and Mohammed from our Policy team delivered research training for our new Explore Youth Researchers.

🏥 Mohammed was joined by Isa and Adriel from our Youth Participation team at , where they shared how our Youth Advisory Groups have been contributing to the WellMet Study.

🗣️ The team also talked about the importance of meaningfully engaging multicultural young people in health research, including as co-researchers.

Well done to Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) launch of CMY’s Join Us for Change project.

This initiative is all about working with young people and multicultural communities to promote respect, inclusion, and gender equality—and ultimately help prevent violence before it starts.

It was terrific to join with so many passionate people from across our community to drive positive change in Ballarat. I really forward to seeing the impact of this important work.
