Backyard in a Box Creating a sustainable future for future generations Set up a sustainable oasis of your own in your backyard, courtyard or balcony.

The movement towards sustainability is occurring in schools Australia wide with the recent roll out of a new curriculum strand Sustainability. Learn and instil important lifelong dispositions in your children with the Backyard in a Box Community and School Readiness Kits. These kits give your family all the guidance you'll need to set up and maintain clean, organic and environmentally friendly practices in your home. Backyard In A Box assists educators to develop and implement programs to support sustainable practice by employing a framework of principles, practices and outcomes supported by the Early Years Learning Framework and it’s associated Being, Belonging, and Becoming, Learning Outcomes. Teachers and Educators can immediately move towards embedding sustainable practices in service operations and demonstrate competence in sustainable practice by becoming an Accredited EcoPreschool. By making submissions to the Backyard In A Box Brilliance Awards your school or centre will earn Accreditation Stars for your centre signage, ensuring your entire community knows about your commitment to sustainability.

A child carrying a basket of straw toward a backyard coop. Muddy boots. Afternoon sun. The quiet confidence of knowing they're caring for something alive.

This is what happens when kids move from watching nature to *being* part of it. Emma and Olivia started by collecting kitchen scraps. Now they're ambassadors for their backyard poultry—teaching their whole community about waste, care, and where food actually comes from.

It's not complicated. It's a coop. Some chickens. A child learning that small actions matter. That they matter.

If your family's been thinking about keeping backyard poultry, or growing food, or building something together in your garden—Backyard in a Box makes it real. Simple, hands-on, sustainable. The kind of project that sticks with a child long after the initial excitement fades.
