We have been painting masterpieces this week 🎨🖌🖼✨️

Painting is so much more than just making a beautiful picture! For our little ones, painting is a wonderful way to learn, explore and express themselves.

🎨 Fine motor skills – Holding brushes, dabbing, making strokes and mixing colours helps strengthen little hands and develop hand-eye coordination.

🌈 Creativity & imagination – There are no right or wrong answers when it comes to art! Children can experiment, make choices and let their imaginations run wild.

🧠 Early learning – Painting introduces colours, shapes, patterns and concepts such as cause and effect in a fun, hands-on way.

💬 Communication & self-expression – Art gives children another way to express their ideas, feelings and experiences, even before they have all the words to explain them.

🤲 Sensory exploration – Feeling paint, exploring different textures and seeing colours blend together provides valuable sensory experiences.

😊 Confidence & independence – Creating something themselves gives children a sense of achievement and encourages them to try new things.

👫 Social skills – Painting alongside other children encourages sharing, taking turns, observing others and enjoying creative experiences together.

And most importantly… it’s fun! ❤️

We love giving our little artists the opportunity to get messy, explore and create their very own masterpieces. 🎨✨

🐠🌈 BOOK WEEK AT PLAYGROUP! 📚✨

What a magical Book Week we had! 💕 This week we dived under the sea and based our activities around the beautiful story The Rainbow Fish 🐠🌈

Our little bookworms enjoyed:
🎨 Creating their very own Rainbow Fish arts & crafts
📚 Book Week colouring-in
🐟 Fish and underwater-themed sensory play
💦 Messy play inspired by the underwater world

And of course, we had an AMAZING group of little book characters joining us! 📖✨

We had dinosaurs 🦖, construction workers 👷, giraffes 🦒, puppies 🐶, fairies 🧚‍♀️, unicorns 🦄, princesses 👑, Spider-Man 🕷️, and even our very own Rainbow Fish! 🐠🌈

It was so lovely seeing the children get creative, explore through play and share their favourite characters and stories with their friends. 💕

Just like The Rainbow Fish, we were reminded that the best kind of sparkle is the kind we share with others. ✨💙

Thank you to all our wonderful families for getting into the Book Week spirit and helping us share our sparkle! 🌈✨

📚✨ BOOK WEEK IS COMING TO BALDIVIS PLAYGROUP! ✨📚

Get ready to step into the pages of your favourite books! 📖💜

For Week 6 (next week) the 24th–28th August, we’re celebrating Book Week 2026 with a week full of imagination, stories, creativity and plenty of dress-ups! 🧚‍♀️🦸‍♂️🐉🏴‍☠️

🌟 Dress as your favourite book character! 🌟
Whether they’re a superhero, fairy, pirate, animal, princess, dinosaur or someone from a much-loved story — we can’t wait to see who you choose! 📚

👗 Costumes are encouraged but absolutely not required — homemade, simple or even just a little book-themed touch is perfect! 💕

We can’t wait to see all of your favourite book characters come to life! 🥰📚💜

🌿🌼 DJILBA — FIRST SPRING 🌼🌿

As we move into August and September, we enter Djilba, one of the six seasons of the Noongar seasonal calendar.

Djilba is known as the “season of conception” and is a time of transition, growth and new life. 🌱

The weather can be a mixture of cold, clear days, warmer sunshine, rain and windy weather — while all around us, nature begins to wake up and become more active.

🌼 Flowers begin appearing, including bright yellows, creams and blues🌱 New plant growth begins🐣 We start to see the first signs of new life🐦 Birds are busy nesting and protecting their young🌿 Grass Tree flower stalks begin to emerge in preparation for Kambarang.

It’s a wonderful reminder to slow down, look around and notice what is growing and changing in the world around us. 🌱🌼

🦷✨ Smiling Starts visits Baldivis Playgroup! ✨🦷

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful team from Smiling Starts to Baldivis Playgroup for an oral health education session.

Smiling Starts is a free WA Government program that helps children under five develop healthy oral hygiene habits from an early age. The program provides families with oral health education, practical toothbrushing tips, preventive dental care and free dental screenings, all aimed at giving little ones the best start to a lifetime of healthy smiles. 🪥😁

🦷 Did you know? Before Smiling Starts, WA children generally didn't have access to a dedicated statewide public dental program until they started school. Smiling Starts is helping bridge that gap by providing free oral health education, screenings and preventive care for children under five, giving little smiles the best possible start.

As parents and caregivers, we all want to give our children the best possible start in life. Looking after their oral health from a young age helps prevent pain and tooth decay, supports healthy eating and speech development, and encourages lifelong healthy habits. Teaching children how to care for their teeth early can make a big difference to their overall health and wellbeing.

A huge thank you to the Smiling Starts team for sharing your knowledge with our families and making today's session so much fun. We truly appreciate your time, enthusiasm and bubbles! 🫧

In today's session, our little learners enjoyed exploring Water Play Art! 💧🎨🖌✨️

Using spray bottles, water and washable markers on aluminium foil, the children experimented with colours, patterns and movement while discovering how water can transform their artwork.

Open-ended process art experiences encourage creativity, curiosity, sensory exploration and fine motor skills, with every child given the opportunity to create something uniquely their own.

This activity is one of the process art, sensory play and outdoor play engagements our President, Carolyn, is currently trialling as part of a new engagement menu she is developing for Baldivis Playgroup.

We're looking forward to rolling out more of these engaging, child-led learning experiences in the next few weeks as the resources and materials become available.
