Native forest logging ended in Victoria, right?

On Monday, Four Corners will investigate native forest logging nationally.

That same night, EJA will release our new Following the Money report, investigating where the $1.5 billion of public money spent on Victoria’s native forest logging transition actually went. Don’t miss this:

👂Microbat ears👂

Microbat species have evolved ear shapes to match how they hunt, where they live, and what kind of prey they target. Rounded, pointy, elongated, broad, long, each ear structure is shaped to best receive specific sound frequencies.

Each species uses different echolocation call frequencies and their ears have evolved to detect those calls with remarkable precision. Microbats can pick out the faint rustle of an insect amongst a chorus of background noise, allowing them to locate prey in darkness.

Microbat hearing is so extraordinary that bats have become an important focus of hearing research. As they can detect incredibly small differences in sound timing, frequency and intensity, they are helping scientists better understand how complex hearing systems work.

Research from microbats have contributed to the development and improvement of technologies that use sound waves including ultrasound imaging, sonar, radar and imaging systems; yet another amazing thing we have bats to thank for ❤️🦇

“Despite millions of dollars invested in attempts to prove rather than test bat-origin hypotheses, we still don’t know the origins for most of the so-called emerging diseases commonly reported to be of bat origin. In fact, available evidence suggests non-bat origins for both Ebola41,42,43 and Covid-19.”

🦇 Are fear-based narratives putting bats at risk?

In a new blog post, "A Self-Perpetuating Cycle of Fear that Threatens Bats," Merlin Tuttle examines how decades of disease-related messaging have fueled misunderstandings about bats, shaped public policy, and threatened conservation efforts worldwide.

The article also highlights why bats deserve greater recognition — not fear — for the vital roles they play in healthy ecosystems and what they may teach us about human health.

A 40-year-old prediction of “self-perpetuating bat disease hysteria” has been fulfilled.1 Based on my 65 years of experience, I believe it’s time to revise disease-related policies involving bats. Merlin Tuttle The April 11, 2026 issue of ECO news, contains an article claiming that scientists ...
