🌸 Exciting New Initiative in Babinda! 🌸

Have you heard about Blooming Abilities? It’s a wonderful new program running right here at the Babinda Taskforce (51 Munro St), designed to give everyone a place to connect, grow, and be productive.

As a social enterprise, Blooming Abilities isn't about making a profit—it's entirely about making a positive impact in our community. The program was specially designed with NDIS participants in mind, providing a welcoming space to learn new skills and thrive.

🌱 What’s Growing?
Currently, three fantastic Babinda residents and their support workers meet for 90 minutes each week. They’ve been hard at work planting, nurturing, and cultivating beautiful hanging baskets!

🏡 Beautify Your Home & Support a Great Cause
These locally grown hanging baskets are now available for purchase at the Babinda Taskforce!

- Where: 51 Munro St, Babinda
- When: Monday to Friday

Why: 100% of the proceeds are reinvested right back into Blooming Abilities to keep this amazing program running.

🙏 A Huge Thank You!
This program was sprouted thanks to a successful grant from the Community Underwriting 2025 Small Grants Program. This funding generously covered the cost of the flowers, baskets, potting mix, gardening gloves, and tools to get our participants started.

Keep an eye on our page for when these gorgeous baskets hit the shelves. Let’s get ready to support our local growers and add some color to Babinda and surrounds! 🌺✨

Babinda gives a thumbs up to…Brian James!

For over 40 years, local snake man Brian James has been assisting our community with snake relocations. Brian has dependably made himself available to remove our slithery friends and return them to the wild.

Over the years Brian has offered snake related education and helpful advice to our community. We would like to thank Brian for prioritising the safety of our community members, both human and scaly!

Please contact Brian if you require any snake removals: 0400 752 977.

📢 CAIRNS AQUATIC FACILITIES STRATEGY – UPDATE FROM COUNCIL

For everyone who made a formal submission, completed Council's feedback form or the Babinda Taskforce survey, or has been following the Draft Cairns Aquatic Facilities Strategy – Cairns Regional Council has provided an update on where things are at.

Here's what we know:

🏊 Consultation closed on 30 April 2026, after being open for more than four months.

📊 Council received:
• 1,095 responses via the 'Have Your Say' survey
• 21 responses from local schools
• 19 submissions from community members and groups via email and mail

📝 Council officers have started a detailed thematic review of all the feedback.

👉 Councillors will be given access to every submission so they are fully informed of community views.

⏳ Given the volume of feedback, working through it will take time and multiple Council workshops.

🗓️ The proposed final strategy – including any changes from community feedback – is expected to be presented to Council late in 2026.

✅ Council has confirmed that no decision has been made on the final strategy, and aquatic facilities will continue to operate as they do now in the meantime.

👏 Thanks to everyone in Babinda and surrounds who took the time to have their say – your voices are part of that 1,095.

We'll keep you posted as further reports come through. ✊
