𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?

Itch Grass (Rottboellia cochinchinensis) is a locally declared pest in the Burdekin and poses a serious threat to the sugarcane industry.

This fast-growing w**d can reach up to 4 metres tall and is easily identified by its long stems with irritating hairs and spear-like seed heads. Each plant can produce over 2,000 seeds, which can remain in the soil for up to seven years.

To help prevent the spread, landholders are urged to:
• Avoid slashing during seeding
• Clean down machinery and vehicles when leaving or entering affected areas
• Act early during the summer wet season

If you think you’ve found Itch Grass or need advice on control options, contact:
