What a wonderful Dinner Meeting we had this evening! πŸ‘

We were delighted to induct three new members; Alex, Sally, and Viv, presenting each of them with a yellow rose and sharing with them the Significance of the Yellow Rose Poem. Thank you all for choosing to join us; we are so pleased to welcome you. πŸ’›

We were also thrilled to have Laura as our guest. Laura has chosen to join us as well and will be formally inducted in July. We look forward to welcoming her into our club. πŸ‘

This evening, we also acknowledged and thanked our outgoing Board Members, presenting them with a yellow rose each as a token of our appreciation for their dedication, leadership, and service over the past two years. πŸ’›

Our guest speaker was our very own Inez, who gave a fascinating presentation about her recent trip to Japan. Thank you, Inez, for sharing your experiences and insights with us.

To round off a productive evening, several members stayed after the meeting to help make breast cushions for those in need. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a memorable and meaningful evening. πŸ‘

A huge thank you πŸ‘ to our wonderful community for supporting our Birthing Kit Working Bee! 🐝

We were thrilled to have had over 50 volunteers come together to help pack an incredible 1,000 birthing kits, (including representatives from Ayr Rotary, Lions Club, Burdekin Christian College, Home Hill State High School, and Friends of Zonta), who joined us for what was a fantastic morning of teamwork, generosity, and community spirit.

We are incredibly grateful for the support, enthusiasm, and time given by everyone who attended. Your efforts will make a real difference in the lives of women and babies around the world.

A heartfelt thank you also to our fellow Zontians for your dedication and commitment in making this event such a success. Together, we are creating a better world for women and girls. 🧑

πŸ’œ Thank You for Taking a Stand Against Domestic and Family Violence πŸ’œ

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. Your presence, support, and willingness to stand together sent a powerful message that domestic and family violence has no place in our community.

It was inspiring to see people of all ages come together, wearing purple, sharing stories, and showing solidarity with those affected by domestic and family violence. Every step taken reinforced the message that change happens when communities stand united.

Thank you to all the volunteers, organisations (including the Burdekin Neighbourhood Centre, Burdekin Community Association, Burdekin Shire Council, Queensland Police Service, and Zonta Club Burdekin), and community members who contributed to the success of the event. Together, we are helping to break the silence, challenge harmful attitudes, and create a safer future for everyone.

πŸ’œ Together we can make a difference. Together we can break the cycle. Together we can take a stand. πŸ’œ

Emotional abuse isn’t always obvious. It can hide behind criticism, manipulation, control, humiliation, or making someone question their own feelings and reality.

This graphic highlights behaviors that are harmful, damaging, and never acceptable in healthy relationships. Awareness is one of the first steps toward prevention and support.

At Zonta International, we stand for respect, dignity, and relationships free from violence and abuse. Let’s continue to educate, support survivors, and speak up when something isn’t right.

Every person deserves to be heard, respected, and safe. πŸ’œ

This Domestic and Family Violence Month we are encouraging our communities to Defy the Norm and Challenge what harmful narratives exist around domestic and family violence. But what next?

If someone tells you they are experiencing abuse, your response matters. Support can save lives. It can be difficult to have conversations about DFV or coercive control. Here are some tips to help:

βœ” Do they feel safe and trust you to talk to them?
βœ” Are they alone and in a safe place? Could there be surveillance, and do you have enough time to talk?
βœ” Ask questions that might help start a conversation – for example, explore what you have seen, heard, or felt.
βœ” Believe what the person tells you. They are more likely to downplay DFV rather than exaggerate it. Many abusers are charming to others.
βœ” Stand by them. It’s okay if they don’t want to talk. Express your concern and remind them DFV is never okay, and it’s not their fault.
βœ” Be supportive. Try not to offer advice or put the person under pressure. Knowing they are supported is very important. Make it clear that the person using DFV or controlling behaviour (coercive control) is responsible for their behaviour and not them.
βœ” Don’t judge. Do not tell them what to do but help them to explore options that are available.
βœ” Remember, it is important to protect yourself. As a bystander, never put yourself in danger or do anything that doesn’t feel safe or appropriate for you.

May is Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage conversations, and stand together to help break the cycle of violence in our communities.

Today, Zonta Club of Burdekin members Isabel, Inez and Rachel attended the Break the Cycle Morning Tea at the PCYC alongside local young people and community members. The event was both inspiring and informative, highlighting the importance of respectful relationships, trusting your instincts, and empowering others to speak up and seek support.

A special thank you to guest speaker Deb McClean from Exercise Angels in Bowen for sharing such powerful and meaningful messages, and to the Ayr Police, Burdekin Neighbourhood Centre, BCA, and Burdekin Shire Council for supporting this important community event. 🧑

🌟 Be Brave, Be Fearless 🌟

At the recent Women’s Health Day which was featured in the Burdekin Life article below, it highlighted the inspiring message shared by international leadership consultant and wellness advocate Robyn Taylor.

Hosted by the Burdekin Shire Council, the event encouraged women across the Burdekin to prioritise wellbeing, resilience, balance, personal growth, and values, all of which align with Zonta’s mission of empowering women in our communities.

Robyn shared her powerful insights on leadership, mindfulness, community connection and the importance of supporting women to thrive both personally and professionally.

At Zonta International, we continue to champion opportunities for women to connect, grow and lead with confidence. For more information please message us. 🧑
