Delta Yarns

Delta Yarns We are Delta Yarns. Storytellers creatively retelling, unearthing and re-examining stories through F Delta Yarns is a Not-for-Profit organisation.

Creating artist and community-led cultural and regional development projects, Delta Yarns is retelling stories of the Burdekin Delta, the place and its people, revealing the intriguing, the unknown and the historically remarkable. Through our various arts, design and cultural projects, we seek to pay homage to the land, preserve and present our heritage, enhance tourism opportunities with economic

gain and – most importantly – nurture the heart of the community. At the core of all our projects are imagination, creativity, lived experience and love.

Thank you dear Marni Hine Photography for capturing this remarkable evening and being an integral part of Delta Yarns.

Well, Lia Tabrah, the artist behind these creations and director of VERMIN is currently in our Space. Please come in and chat to Lia about her work and processes. Delta at Dusk; music, food and fashion. An intimate event with incredible stories and music by Clea, Kate Martin and Dan Baker with sound and lighting by Neighbourhood Productions.

Thank you to those who joined us under the stars at Vintage Rose. We hope you made the most of the delicious food by Michels Catering and Events, sipped on some gin, devoured Justina’s sweets, appreciated the array of fresh produce from Rapisarda Enterprise and Mt Alma Organics and above all else shared a yarn.

We look forward to seeing you at Delta at Dusk in 2023.

Sunday 25 and Monday 26 September
9.30am - 3pm

UPFront Space, 95 Queeen Street

Workshop with Lydia Pearson and Shilo Engelbrecht. Come for as long or little as you like. Stay for half an hour, or a few hours.

UPSTITCH: REFASHIONING TEXTILES OF THE PAST

Join renowned fashion designer Lydia Pearson and artist Shilo Engelbrecht for a makers workshop with a difference.

Often tucked away at the back of drawers, participants are invited to bring in family crocheted tablecloths, throws, runners, fabrics, doilies and more. Collectively a new creation will be fabricated, and exhibited as part of our popup gallery in Re:Collections UPFront on Queen Street.

This created community piece will speak of a collective memory and to family heirlooms that hold dear sentimentality to us all. It will invoke a past where stitching and craft were common and routine, and along the way, many yarns and family anecdotes will be shared.

Lydia Pearson is a legend in Australian fashion. Along with Pamela Easton, Lydia ran the much loved and iconic fashion label Easton Pearson for twenty-eight years. Lydia is now a fashion academic at the Queensland University of Technology.

Shilo Engelbrecht is a visual artist. Her work is characterized by a strong use of colour, lyrical brush strokes.
