🚆 Avenel deserves safer rail crossings.

The Avenel community has spent years advocating for rail safety improvements.

Residents have completed surveys, attended rallies, worked with local MPs and shared their story on national television.

Yet more than a year after a local child was seriously injured at the Bank Street rail crossing, the community is still waiting for permanent safety upgrades.

As National Rail Safety Week begins, Strathbogie Shire Council is proud to stand alongside the Avenel Active community group in continuing to advocate for safer rail infrastructure.

Everyone has a role to play in rail safety. Please stay alert around rail crossings and always follow signs and signals.

In National Rail Safety Week, hear Avenel’s Anne Douglas discuss rail safety with Jo Printz, ABC Radio Shepparton, Monday 10 August, from 7.10am. Avenel is one of the few V/Line stations between Melbourne and Albury without either locking pedestrian gates or an underpass.

The ‘Get Me to the Shops!’ weekly community bus is continuing free travel inJune. The bus runs from Avenel to Seymour every Thursday morning. Join the bus at Avenel Railway Station at 9.15am or ph. John Thomson 0439 269 799 to book pick-up from home. Bookings must be made before 6.00pm each Wednesday. We return to Avenel by 12 noon. Available to all Avenel residents. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Usual return $5 fare will resume from 1 July
