📢UPCOMING MEETING
A meeting of the Behaviour Complaint Committee will be held as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 25 August 2026
Time: 2pm
Location: Harvey Council Chamber

The Committee will consider a behaviour complaint matter.

The Committee proposes to close the meeting to members of the public pursuant to section 5.23(4)(b) of the Local Government Act 1995 as the information to be considered relates to the personal affairs of individuals. The confidentiality provisions are necessary to protect the privacy of the persons involved and to ensure the complaint is considered in a fair and appropriate manner.

Where legal advice is considered by the Committee, section 5.23(4)(a) may also apply.

⭐Project Update | Collie River Bridge Fishing Platform⭐

🐟The Shire of Harvey is progressing plans to undertake maintenance and remedial works on the Collie River fishing platform, located on the northern side of the Collie River Bridge.

The project has a budget of $275,000. This includes $150,000 in funding from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), and a $125,000 contribution from the Shire of Harvey.

The fishing platform is a remnant of part of the former Collier River Traffic bridge. Previous condition assessments identified areas requiring maintenance and repair. As a result, the area has been temporarily closed.

A tender for the maintenance works is due to close on 10 July 2026.

The project will focus on restoring the platform and walkway to ensure the facility can continue to be safely used by the community. Maintenance and remedial works are expected to be completed by October 2026.

🏉To use a footy analogy, 6233 (Flagmantle 2026 💜🫣) the buck stops with the coach. Unfortunately for us, our coach (CEO) left before the buck stopped. The Shire of Harvey Workforce Plan, 6233, to be quite honest, paints a sorry picture of dysfunction within the Shire. Here's some of the key takeaways:

🔄Headcount is 279 (WA Median u pathways

📖You can read between the lines a bit on the key themes, 6233. The Shire hasn't been a great place to work. It's suffered from lack of direction which has contributed to the serious dysfunction we have now. We need a culture rebuild.

📗Context: the issues facing the Shire of Harvey aren't unique to us. There is widespread dysfunction across the sector, with issues attracting and retaining qualified staff, transparency and financial management.

For anyone wondering what we do here at the 6233, our goal is to engage, connect and listen to our community, identify what matters most and work together to advocate, activate and create positive change in our local area.

Not alone though! The 6233 is not an island we can't do it alone, nor do we want to. We are excited to meet new people and see some familiar faces and will hopefully be able to share where our September meeting will be with you soon.

📖POPULATION DETERMINES SERVICE PROVISION IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT📖Just reading the Australind Community Precinct Feasibility Study, 6233. Check this opening statement:

1⃣"Given population size is the most significant driver of services Local Government provides to its community"
2⃣"Further to the population projections for the entire Shire, it is worth noting that approximately 80% of this population currently resides in the Australind/Leschenault/Treendale area. Based upon current settlement patterns it is likely that this concentration will further consolidate in the coming years."

So, 6233, our population continues to grow but our community facilities continue to be insufficient to meet community needs? Even more so now several of them are closed. Have we got that right? 🤔

🗄️Fun fact of the day: Who determines the administrative structure? Yep, Council. The CEO creates a workforce by delegation of Council. Council have the right to determine the # of staff, and their qualifications. So, 6233, maybe our Council can claw back some of the ever growing FTE at the Shire.

Update: Australind Obedience Dog Club have been contacted by the Shire of Harvey. The fees will be waived this year and in future the fee structure will be done in consultation with the club to ensure their longevity.
