The Armidale Pottery Club

The Armidale Pottery Club Our members are ceramics artists who make functional and sculptural pieces on wheels, by hand and using slipcast. We welcome new members of all abilities.

The Armidale Pottery Club, established in the early 1970s, brings together those with a passion for working with clay. Our 40 members have a range of diverse interests, from wheel-thrown functional ware, to hand built functional and sculptural works, and mould-making for slip casting and press moulding. Each year we run hand building workshops and wheel throwing lessons, which are available to the

wider community. We also hold an annual exhibition and sale on the first and second weekend of December (our main fund-raiser). Our members have a broad range of skills. Some are beginners and others have many yearsโ€™ experience, which they generously share with less-experienced members. Our workshop environment is friendly and supportive. Each member has 24/7 access to the club and its resources. The workshop is well-equipped with 8 pottery wheels, 2 kilns, clay, pre-mixed glazes, all the materials needed to make your own glazes, and a range of tools and equipment available to all. Membership is $100 per year. Our club meetings are at noon on the first Friday of the month in the workshop which is located behind the Swimming Pool (opposite the TAFE in Beardy Street). This historic building, once the bathhouse for the swimming pool, is rich in character and a great venue for bringing creative people together.

The Armidale Pottery Club has a LP Gas-fired Kiln for sale where is as is. Asking price is $1,000 and is negotiable.

All enquiries email [email protected]

The club has a โ€œHitempโ€ two burner kiln that is surplus to requirements. This is a reliable and well-maintained pottery kiln, solid metal frame, lined with refractory bricks plus an extra lining of 25mm high temperature โ€˜Fibrefraxโ€™ panels. The old burners have recently been replaced with two new burners.

This Kiln is a good clean unit of a well-made, reliable, proven design with minimal undamaged outer metal casing with a non-asbestos insulating material between the original refractory bricks which are still in good condition. It also has an extra lining of latest-technology high temperature rigid refractory panels, attached with durable ceramic screw fittings.

Sizes and capacity: The โ€˜footprintโ€™ is 1100 x 800 mm, standing 1750 mm high with a stainless steel 90-degree angled flue and an external stainless-steel flue (flue has rust damage). The LP gas burners can be individually controlled by gas taps or adjusted for bisque, earthenware or stoneware firing by a standard gas regulator and pressure gauge. The two burners are mid-placed on either side, the kiln flued with a bottom opening at the rear of the firing chamber which is 550 high x 500 deep x 500 wide. (approximately 8 cubic feet) The door is well sealed with twin closures, refractory brick lined with a ceramic tube spy hole 2/3 up from the base which is undamaged by glazes. It is hard to find a kiln of this quality, reliability and size.
