IT'S ON AGAIN - MARK YOUR DIARY
THERE’s no need to ‘book’ your spot, but the 28th annual Rotary Book Fair will again be a good opportunity to ‘read all about it’!
More than 70,000 quality used books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games will be on sale at bargain prices from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23 May at the Armidale Jockey Club.
There is also a range of rare and collectable items at very attractive prices.
Children’s books are just $1 while puzzles, CDs and DVDs are $2.
In what has become a popular Armidale tradition the Book Fair offers all genres from fiction, children’s, cookery, history, reference, hobbies, military, art and photography – these at just $3 each!
The week-long fair runs daily from 9am to 5pm and finishes on Saturday 23 May with a $5 a bag book bonanza - fill our shopping bag with as many books as you can fit and walk away with what must be the best bargain in town.
All proceeds help the Rotary Club of Armidale Central fund many local causes, including charities, such as Meals on Wheels, St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army, as well as NERAM, The New England Conservatorium of Music, the Armidale Playhouse, and local schools.
Last year the fair raised almost $100,000, the majority of which was distributed in the local community.
Club President Kerry Myers said the annual even has become part of the social fabric of the city.
“It is great to see so many familiar faces turning up year after year – it’s become a fun community event as much as it is a great fund raiser,” Kerry said.
“Our members and valued volunteers work throughout the year sorting and collating only the best books for sale. Those that don’t make the grade aren’t wasted - they are recycled for sale by the local Ascent group.
“But the people to whom we are most grateful are those who continue to donate their books, CDs, DVDs, etc. They make it all possible and we thank them!
“People still love reading books and we look forward to welcoming them again at this year’s fair.”
