Intrepid Landcare Inspiring the next generation of Landcarers, Intrepid Landcare empowers young people to contribute and lead on stuff that matters to them! Intrepid Landcare

Intrepid Landcare is a national network of initiatives led by young people who are working in the space of environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture. Co-founded by National Young Landcare Ambassadors Megan Lee (Rowlatt) and Naomi Edwards, Intrepid Landcare aims to provide a common space to connect, inspire and empower young Australians to join local environmental initiatives in their

communities and across the world. The concept builds on the highly successful Illawarra and Gold Coast Intrepid Landcare models, which are connecting young people across the Illawarra and Gold Coast regions to adventurous conservation projects in Landcare and other environmental movements. Intrepid Landcare pushes the boundaries of the traditional Landcare model in Australia and has evolved into a highly dynamic, multifaceted initiative that embraces the energy, passion and creativity of young people in communities across Australia. By focusing on equipping young Australians with the right knowledge and experiences they can contribute, drive and lead environmental initiatives that are relevant and interesting to them. Intrepid Landcare educates, enables and inspires young people in communities to contribute to environmental volunteer opportunities all over Australia and the world. With our partners, we provide a platform to promote all environmental volunteer opportunities for young people across Australia. Through our Intrepid Landcare Leadership retreats, workshops and resources we aim to build the capacity of local and regional Landcare networks and young people in communities across Australia to harness their passion for the environment, connect youth with local and national environmental mentors, and help identify local on-ground projects that they can contribute to in their local area. We also offer the assistance to help set up a sustainable on-going local support network for young people and offer coaching services to young leaders to drive local projects and initiatives in their communities. We believe now is the time to embrace a way forward to inspire young Australians to connect with their local communities and protect the environment, but not ignore the fun stuff along the way. Protecting the environment is bloody hard work, but it can be damn good fun too ;)

Join the adventure!

Nine years. That's a long time to chair anything ๐Ÿ’š

But what we'll remember most isn't the tenure. It's the phone call Doug made from his holiday to workshop board succession ideas with us. Or the time he was in Japan ๐ŸŒ (also on holiday) and made a point of dropping in to spend time with Kaz and our group there.

That's Doug.

From our earliest days as an organisation, Doug has been genuinely present for us, not in a formal or at-arm's-length kind of way, but in the way that we needed. Advice when we sought it. Honest conversations when things were hard. And through his role leading Landcare Australia, a consistent voice backing the next generation of landcarers at a national level, including through the formation of the NextGen Landcare Working Group, something we're incredibly proud to be part of ๐ŸŒฑ

We're really looking forward to seeing what he does next (after another holiday, hopefully ๐Ÿ˜„), all the while quietly hoping he doesn't go too far. Because there are still a lot of young Australians who'd benefit from five minutes with him.

Thank you Doug. It's meant more than you know ๐Ÿ’š

Our local groups have been absolutely firing lately โ€” and we love to see it. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ”ฅ

This week we're throwing the spotlight on the Brisbane Intrepid Landcare crew. If you've been following their page, you'll know they've been quietly busy for months โ€” and this Saturday, they're inviting the whole community to come along and get their hands dirty.๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ™Œ

A big shout out to Landcare Australia and Bupa Australia for the grant funding that made this possible. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค

All the details are in the flyer. Go show them some love! ๐Ÿ‘‡โค๏ธ

Three new board members. One shared mission. ๐Ÿ’š

Over the past week we've introduced you to Clancy, Jessica, and Sophia - three people who have been quietly doing extraordinary things for the environment long before joining our board.

A community builder who's turned native pollinators (and nature strips) into a movement. An environmental educator who's worked from island conservation projects to botanic gardens. A grassroots advocate who plants trees on two continents and never stops inviting people in.

Together, they bring fresh perspectives, deep experience, and genuine passion to everything we're building at Intrepid Landcare. We believe the best way to grow the next generation of environmental leaders is to make sure the people at the table have actually lived it - and these three absolutely have.

If you haven't already, go show Clancy, Jess, and Sophia some love in their intro posts. The Landcare family just got a whole lot stronger. ๐ŸŒฟ

Meet Sophia Bagatsing โ€“ our newest board member, and honestly, one of a kind. ๐ŸŒฑ

Manila-born and Melbourne-based, Sophia brings a rare mix of lived experience, grassroots energy, and genuine heart to the Intrepid Landcare Board. Her connection to the land runs deep โ€“ rooted in a family farming heritage, shaped by volunteering across two countries, and fuelled by a belief that caring for nature is ultimately an act of love.

Over the years sheโ€™s worn many hats: garlic farmer, youth and community facilitator (Climate for Change + Wyndham City Council), environmental engagement officer, and โ€“ our personal favourite โ€“ self-appointed inflatable dinosaur at a The Climate Council ๐Ÿฆ• After discovering landcare through a Landcare Australia mentorship program, she found her way to Intrepid Landcare during the pandemic and has been an active volunteer and advocate ever since.

As a migrant, Sophia understands deeply what it means to feel rooted in place โ€“ and she brings that understanding to everything she does, making environmental action feel welcoming, practical, and a little more fun for everyone around her. Weโ€™re so glad sheโ€™s officially part of the family. Welcome, Sophia! ๐Ÿ™Œ

We're so excited to welcome Jessica Vize to the Intrepid Landcare Board! ๐ŸŒฟ

Jess is an environmental educator, volunteer coordinator, and environmental science graduate from Deakin University - and she brings exactly the kind of hands-on, youth-focused conservation experience that sits at the heart of what we do.

Through her work at the Jane Goodall Institute Australia, she's coordinated threatened species conservation projects on Mud Island in Port Phillip Bay and supported young leaders right across the country. She also delivers environmental education programs at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria - connecting students with ecology and science communication in ways that actually stick.

What we love most about Jess? She genuinely believes in the power of connecting people with nature to build community and grow the next generation of environmental leaders.

Sound familiar? We thought so too. ๐Ÿ’š

Welcome to the team, Jess! Drop a ๐ŸŒฟ in the comments to say g'day!

Everyone, meet our new Board Member, Clancy - aka the Bee Man. ๐Ÿ And yes, that is an official title.

Clancy runs Bees And Blossoms , a grassroots initiative reconnecting communities with nature through native pollinators, biodiversity education, and hands-on action. With a background in ecology, conservation, and science communication (shaped by the Wattle Fellowship and the The University of Melbourne), he has a knack for showing people that caring for nature can start right where they are.

He builds native bee hotels, plants native species, and has inspired thousands of people to do the same through his online content. But beyond the videos, what really drives Clancy is creating genuine pathways for young people to step up as environmental leaders - and making the whole thing more accessible, inclusive, and a lot more fun along the way.

We're thrilled to be working with his energy, creativity, and community focus shaping the future of Intrepid Landcare. ๐ŸŒฟ

Welcome to the board, Clancy! ๐Ÿ™Œ Have you ever built a native bee hotel? Tell us in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡

Something's growing at Intrepid Landcare. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿคซ

Three new voices. Three new perspectives. Three people who've already been out there doing the work - in the field, in classrooms, in communities, and across two countries.

We can't wait to introduce them. Watch this space. ๐Ÿ‘€
