The common trap: We treat feelings as facts.
"I feel anxious β so I must be in danger." "I feel like I can't cope β so I can't." Thatβs emotion-driven reasoning, which fuels a loop:
A trigger sparks fear β you avoid it β avoidance works short-term β fear grows β your world shrinks.
Hard but freeing truth:
Avoidance feeds fear. Facing it gently, step by step, makes it shrink. β¨
How to break free:
Question the fear: βIs this true? Whatβs the evidence? Is this present or an echo?β
Build calm comebacks: βThis is a triggered alarm, not real danger. I am not powerless.β
Take small steps: list what you avoid, rank 1β10, start with the smallest. Each win builds courage.
π§ Remember: you are not your thoughts - you observe them. That distance gives you power. Neuroplasticity means each calmer response carves a new pathway for calm.
"Itβs not events that make us feel the way we feel - but our interpretation of them."
