“Important notice.”
We have recently received this important update notice from Rebecca White MP. Federal Labor Government regarding the Blackspot Program for Ansons Bay. See attached email below.
Concerns remain about the height of the tower.
Telstra advise a 50 metre tower will be required to provide adequate phone and data service to cover the whole of Ansons Bay.
Ansons Bay were eligible for the Blackspot program on the basis of many drownings, car accidents, bushfires, one road in and one road out, no phone coverage at all etc.
Now is the time for each individual to contact their members on Council and state their concerns.
It is important for these individual concerns to be given now, especially in the middle of an election.
Please do not delay.
There is no logical reason for the tower not to be 50metres.

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the progress of the proposed mobile telecommunications site at Ansons Bay. I appreciate the importance of reliable mobile coverage for residents, businesses, and visitors in the area, particularly in regional communities where connectivity is essential for safety and staying connected.
I have followed up with Telstra and can provide you with an update on the status of the project.
Telstra has confirmed that the proposed mobile site is continuing to progress, with the proposed location on Council-owned land at North Ansons Road/Connection Cove.
Telstra has been engaging with Break O’Day Council as part of the early planning process. Council has requested further information, including an ecological report and clarification regarding the proposed tower height, coverage, visual impact, site location, and community consultation. Telstra and its project team are working through these matters with Council.
In relation to the proposed tower height, Council has indicated that a 50-metre tower is not its preferred option, while also expressing support for improved telecommunications coverage at Ansons Bay. Telstra has advised that the proposed height is being assessed against the coverage outcomes required, as reducing the height may compromise coverage to some premises. Any coverage information available at this stage remains indicative and is subject to detailed design and local conditions.
Importantly, Telstra has confirmed that the project has not stopped. Work is continuing with Council and relevant specialists to address the outstanding planning matters and clarify the pathway forward.
While there are still matters to resolve before the project can progress further, I welcome Telstra’s confirmation that it remains active and that engagement with Council is continuing.
I understand the frustration that uncertainty around this project can cause for the Ansons Bay community. Reliable telecommunications are particularly important in regional and remote areas, and I will continue to seek updates as the proposal progresses.
