Anindilyakwa Land & Sea Rangers

Anindilyakwa Land & Sea Rangers Stay up to date with Recreation Area land closures and openings. Find out what the Rangers are doing around the Groote Archipelago.
(1)

The Anindilyakwa Ranger group was created in 2002. Today, male and female rangers from Umbakumba and Angurugu communities work together to manage both the land and sea within the Anindilyakwa Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). The Anindilyakwa IPA has significant conservation values and there are many sacred places, songlines and plants and animals that are important to Anindilyakwa people. The rang

ers undertake many activities to look after these values for future generations. Some of these activities include: removing ghost nets and marine debris from beaches, collaborating with researchers to learn more about country, undertaking w**d management, making sure cane toads don’t get to Groote Eylandt, undertaking marine patrols and managing visitor access to Recreation Areas. Rangers also support traditional owners to pass on cultural knowledge to young people during cultural trips and Learning on Country activities.

📲🌿The Anindilyakwa Land & Sea Rangers are pleased to announce the launch of our new Anindilyakwa Permit App.

This app will become the primary platform for sharing important updates, including land closures, replacing Facebook posts and website notifications for these matters.

The Anindilyakwa Permit App is designed as a convenient, all-in-one resource, offering:
- Recreational permit purchases
- Real-time land closure updates
- Biosecurity information
- Safety information
- Offline maps to support navigation while on Country
- A “Report Something” feature
- And much more

Users will also be able to receive notifications about recreational area closures and track condition updates, ensuring timely and accurate information is always available.

As this is a new system, there may be some initial teething issues. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to refine and improve the app to better serve the community. We hope this change provides a more streamlined and reliable way for everyone to access the information they need.

We encourage everyone to download the app and stay informed. To get started, simply scan the QR code provided or visit your app store "Anindilyakwa Permit App".📲🌿

Attention Community Members:
We've received reports about flying foxes and bats being found deceased in our area. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and Northern Territory Government (NTG) suggests that this may be due to environmental factors related to recent cyclone activity, rather than an infectious disease.
Important Reminders:
• Avoid Handling: If you come across any dead flying foxes or bats, please do not touch them. They can still carry diseases that may be transmitted to humans.
• Safe Removal: If you must remove a carcass, please wear gloves, double bag it, and dispose of it in a secured area where animals like dogs cannot access it.

Report Sightings: If you see any dead flying foxes or bats, please contact our Biosecurity Coordinator at 0418 678 495.

For More Information: You can learn more about the Australian bat lyssavirus and rabies from NT Health.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe!
