Ayr Surf Life Saving Club was born from loss in 1926, when a donation made in memory of a young life lost at sea came with one powerful request:
“They asked that the money be used not as a memorial, but to help protect others.”

In 2026, the club marks 100 years of service — built not on big budgets, but on volunteers, loyalty, and generations of locals in red and yellow. Sustained by community. Still protecting lives a century on.

A piece of surf life saving history! 📖 🌊

In November 1956, Tom Bonke proudly represented the Ayr Surf Life Saving Club at the International Surf Carnival in Torquay — held as a demonstration event alongside the Melbourne Olympic Games. 🏊‍♂️

Pictured is Tom’s original swim costume, proudly bearing the Ayr club logo, along with his official Surf Life Saving Association of Australia certificate.

We’re excited to announce that the winning title is “100 Summers: The story of the Ayr Surf Life Saving Club”, submitted by TWO respondents — Isabella Moloney and James Kennedy.

This title will proudly mark the cover of our centenary book, capturing 100 years of memories at Ayr SLSC 🌊⛱️
