633,000 kids is a number that’s hard to get your head around.
They’re kids who love footy, hate broccoli, make their parents laugh and ask what’s for dinner.
Right now, 633,000 Victorian children are living in homes where food runs out before more money comes in, according to the Foodbank Hunger Report. That’s not a stat. It’s a heartbreak.

Rick has been through more than most.
Five years ago, he was finishing cancer treatment when he first came to Knox InfoLink looking for some food help. Not long after, he lost his home and started living in his van with his dog.
Rick comes to the community breakfast four mornings a week for a warm meal. After that, it might be baked beans on toast. Some days, he simply skips meals.
Every couple of months, Rick also visits our Mobile Supermarket, picking up essentials he can carefully stretch until his next visit.
“People don’t realise how much you rely on just the staples and things.”
But through everything Rick has been dealt, he’s never stopped looking out for other people.
A foundation he started with friends helps raise money to keep local soup kitchens going. And on Christmas Day, they’ll feed around 100 people, opening the doors to those who might otherwise spend the day alone.
While Rick is making sure others have a meal this Christmas, he’ll be relying on a little help himself.
“I rely on Christmas hampers and things to get me through.”
Without the support of organisations like Foodbank, Rick says Christmas would be “pretty bleak”.
Richard knows what it means to need a hand. And even through some incredibly hard years, he’s never stopped extending his to someone else. 💜

With hunger at home in 1 in 3 households, it’s become an everyday reality for too many Victorians.
For people in our street. People we work with. People living next door.
Maybe for someone you love.
Someone like Eddie. A nurse for 20 years, Eddie spent a lifetime caring for others. She never imagined she’d one day need that same care in return. That she’d need food relief.

The Foodbank Hunger Report 2026 is out today, and the findings are heartbreaking. One in three Victorian households is struggling to put food on the table, with 633,000 Victorian kids living in homes where food runs out before more money comes in.

What a delight to spend the morning at Knox Infolink, one of our charity partners.
Warm smiles, eggs and bacon, and lots of lovely conversations.
The team here serve breakfast four times a week and, for some of the people who come along, it’s the only meal they’ll have that day. But there’s so much more on offer too, from free haircuts and laundry to tech advice and other practical support. People from all different walks of life, sitting around shared tables, having a chat over breakfast. A pretty great way to start the day. 💜. Knox Infolink

Sometimes the littlest people have the biggest hearts.
For six years, the students at Altona Green Primary School have been collecting food to help people in their community doing it tough. And this year, these little legends are keeping the tradition going.
A huge thank you to the school for continuing to encourage their students to get involved and make a difference. 💜
