In celebrating International Year of the Woman Farmer (https://www.fao.org/woman-farmer-2026/en) we are sharing stories of Queensland Farming Women with you. This week we are talking to Alyson who was a 2026 finalist for the Queensland AgriFutures Rural Woman of the Year.

Alyson Shepherd is a business owner, educator, speaker, and citizen scientist. After her father's sudden passing, she found solace in a decades-old beehive, igniting her journey of healing and renewed purpose. Alyson's mission is to create an inclusive, bee-friendly world, particularly for neurodivergent children. She aims to help learners of all ages connect with nature's pollinators through engaging, supportive education and citizen science. By fostering understanding and appreciation for bees, Alyson inspires children to embrace their unique perspectives, fostering community connections and promoting a more sustainable future where everyone feels valued and included.
