🚨 We have expanded our Hinchinbrook Disaster Dashboard with new trial road water level sensors to give our community clearer, real-time information during severe weather events.

πŸ”΅ Blue measuring gauge symbols on the Dashboard show where live data is available. By clicking on these symbols, you can now view road water depths at key locations across the Shire.

🌧️ These improvements help you better understand local road flood risks and travel accessibility during floods or heavy rainfall.

πŸ“Š If the trial is successful, we will consider expanding sensors to more frequently impacted roads across the Shire.

🏠 You can also use the Flood Awareness (Alert) tool to check flood history and potential inundation levels for your own property. This can help you make informed decisions β€” such as when to self-evacuate or when action is needed to protect your property, like sandbagging.

⚠️ Remember to:

βœ”οΈ Know your risk

As at 4pm on 2 March 2026, there are 20 roads currently closed or affected across the Hinchinbrook region due to flooding.

Please be advised that access beyond the Ingham Agencies roadblock is restricted to Hawkins Creek and Bemerside local residents only.

We understand this may be frustrating for residents, travellers and freight operators, however conditions remain unsafe in some areas.

Restrictions will stay in place until waters recede and crews can assess road conditions.

We are currently in the monsoonal season, and changing weather conditions can impact road access at short notice.

πŸ“£ Telstra Satellite Messaging Now Available

Good news for anyone living or travelling in our region. Telstra has partnered with SpaceX Starlink to switch on satellite to mobile text messaging in Australia.

If you have an eligible Telstra plan and a supported Samsung Galaxy S25 or iPhone 13 to 16, you can now send and receive texts even when you are outside normal mobile coverage.

It is early technology and works for text messaging only, but testing across remote areas shows it delivers a useful backup when you move beyond range.

A strong step forward for staying connected across our region.
