If a fire started in your home tonight, would everyone know how to get out safely?

Having an escape plan is just as important as having working smoke alarms. Take some time with your family to discuss:
• Two ways out of every room where possible
• A safe meeting place outside
• Who will help children, older family members or pets
• What to do if a smoke alarm sounds

Most importantly, practise your plan so everyone knows exactly what to do in an emergency.

Today is Smoke Alarm Action Day, and we're encouraging everyone to take a few seconds to check their smoke alarms.

A working smoke alarm can provide vital early warning in the event of a fire, giving you and your family valuable time to get out safely.

✅ Press the test button on every smoke alarm in your home
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Make sure your alarms are working properly

It only takes 2 seconds to press the button, but those 2 seconds could save lives.

Take action today and make sure your smoke alarms are ready when you need them most.

Last Monday, members from Allansford CFA were lucky enough to receive a tour of the ammonia refrigeration facilities at Lineage Logistics. Joining us on the day were members from warrnambool CFA, other brigades from the Hopkins Curdies Group, along with Fire Station 70.

Site familiarisation tours like this are an essential part of ensuring our crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively in the event of an emergency.

We are very grateful to the team at Lineage Logistics for giving us the opportunity to tour the facility, learn more about their operations, and ask questions about the site and safety procedures.

Training, preparation, and strong relationships within our community all play a vital role in helping us protect and support the South West region.

Today we recognise those who's duty it is to run towards danger when others are told to leave.

On International Firefighter Day, we thank our incredible CFA members and all of those who protect communities in times of crisis and every day in between.

Your courage, commitment and care don't go unnoticed.

Thinking of lighting up a fire pit this weekend? Stay safe!

As the weather cools down, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a fire—but safety comes first.

Before you light up:
✔️ Check if Fire Restrictions are still in place in your area
✔️ Make sure you understand the current rules

Once your fire is going:
💧 Never leave it unattended
💧 Always have plenty of water nearby to fully extinguish it when you’re done

As we head into autumn, conditions are easing but parts of our region remain dry and fire risk is still present.

The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will officially end at 1:00am on Monday, 20 April for Warrnambool City Council.

With restrictions lifting, please stay vigilant, grassfires can still start even in cooler weather.

If you’re planning a burn-off:
▪️ Check conditions and monitor the weather
▪️ Notify neighbours
▪️ Have water and equipment ready
▪️ Never leave it unattended

Don’t forget to register your burn-off to avoid unnecessary call-outs:

If your burn gets out of control, call 000 immediately.

Let’s keep our community safe.

Don’t forget this weekend – clocks back, smoke alarm check!

As daylight saving comes to an end, your clocks might update themselves… but your smoke alarm won’t!

While you’re enjoying a hot cross bun, take a minute to test your smoke alarm and make sure it’s working properly. It’s a simple check that could save your life.

If it’s not sounding right, replace the batteries or the unit if needed.

The Hopkins Curdies Group is firing up the BBQ today at Bunnings Warrnambool, so make sure you swing by, grab a snag, and support a great local cause.

We’ve also got our FCV and the Allansford Fire Brigade truck on display this morning, so come down, say hello, and check out the gear up close.

Don’t forget, our Easter Community Event is also happening today from 10am to 12pm. Bring the kids along for a fun Easter egg hunt and enjoy a great morning with the community.

Plenty happening today , so come down, get involved, and show your support.

Today was an incredible effort from our community, with the Good Friday Appeal seeing amazing support right here in Allansford.

Thanks to the generosity of the Allansford community, we raised a total of $16,260.47, absolutely smashing our previous record of $10,880.

Breaking it down:

Door knocking total: $14,678.85
Easter egg raffle: $1,230
Plus additional online donations

It’s truly something special to see what a small town like ours can achieve when everyone gets behind such an important cause. We couldn’t be prouder of the effort from our volunteers and the support from every single person who donated.

A great effort in our first year on the tally board and what a result it was. To raise over $16,000 in our debut year is something the whole community can be proud of.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped with door knocking today, and to those who have put in an incredible effort over the past few years to help get Allansford onto the tally board.

Now the challenge is set… time to build on it and go even bigger next year!
