Be Kind and Courteous:
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect.

The Aurora Education Foundation is broadening the conversation about what is possible for Indigenous Australians in relation to academic achievement – from school attendance and minimum benchmarks to academic excellence in Australia and the world stage. Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. If we find that you are insulting or bullying our staff, participants or other community members, we will remove you from this page without prior warning. No Promotions or Spam:
Give more to this space than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed. If you continue, we will block you from this page. Respect Everyone's Privacy:
Being part of this space requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make this space great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in a group should stay in a group. Report Rule-Breaking:
If you see a post or comment that violates our rules, please report it to the admins — do not manage the situation yourself. If you have been tagged in photos involuntarily or inappropriately, please report it to admins.

2024 First Nations Cancer Scholarship recipient Eden Slicer recently presented at the World Indigenous Cancer Conference in Aotearoa New Zealand, delivering her first oral conference presentation on brain cancer in First Nations peoples.

The conference brought together First Nations clinicians, researchers, community members and health professionals from around the world, including Canada, the United States and Pacific Island nations.

For Eden, the experience reinforced the importance of culturally safe, community-led research and offered valuable insight into the different ways Indigenous communities are improving cancer care outcomes.

Reflecting on her experience as a FNCS recipient, Eden shared:

"This scholarship has been invaluable in supporting my academic and professional development, particularly by enabling opportunities like attending international conferences and connecting with a global network of First Nations leaders in cancer research and care. I am deeply grateful for the support, which continues to empower me to grow, learn, and contribute back to my Community."

We’re proud to support Eden as she continues her research journey and contributes to improving cancer outcomes for First Nations communities.

Congratulations to Aurora Alum Dakota Feirer, who has been selected as a 2026 Fellow with Red Room Poetry.

Chosen from more than 200 applicants, the fellowship supports six poets from across Australia to further develop their creative practice through a program delivered in partnership with Varuna.

Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr man, Dakota, has been part of the Aurora network for many years - first joining our High School Program before becoming a Mentor, participating in the Internship Program and International Study Tour, and receiving a Roberta Sykes Scholarship to complete his Master of Museum Studies at New York University.

Since graduating, Dakota has had work featured in Kill Your Darlings, Red Room Poetry and Australian Poetry. In 2023, he was awarded a blak&write! fellowship, and in 2025 published his collection Arsenic Flower.

It has been incredibly special to watch Dakota’s journey over the years and see him continue stepping into new opportunities and achievements.

Well done, Dakota. We can’t wait to see where your writing takes you next!

For many students, studying overseas can feel out of reach.

Today, Wiradjuri woman and Aurora Scholar Kishaya is studying a Master of Public Policy at Harvard University, something she once never thought would be possible.

Throughout her journey, Aurora has supported Kishaya to build her skills, confidence and leadership, opening doors that have taken her all the way to one of the world's leading universities.

Kishaya hopes to use her policy expertise to improve legal support for Indigenous communities and inspire the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders.
Her story shows what can happen when young people are given access to the networks, support and experiences that help them pursue their goals.

This EOFY, your donation can help more Indigenous students access life-changing experiences and pursue ambitions that may once have felt out of reach.

Today we honour the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo, a proud Meriam man whose fight for justice changed the course of Australia’s history.

Alongside fellow Meriam people Reverend David Passi, Sam Passi, James Rice and Celuia Mapo Salee, Eddie challenged the legal fiction of terra nullius in the landmark Mabo case - paving the way for the recognition of Native Title and the enduring connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to Country, culture and community.

Today we remember and honour the lasting impact of their courage and determination.

Meet Liam White, a proud Kuku Yalanji man from Far North Queensland and a qualified dentist now studying Prosthodontics at The University of Queensland with the support of Aurora’s First Nations Cancer Scholarship.

Having seen firsthand the challenges of accessing care in regional communities, Liam was driven to deepen his work in a field that supports oral cancer rehabilitation.

His goal is to return to regional and rural communities as a specialist, helping improve access to care and supporting better outcomes for mob.

We’re proud to support Liam on this journey and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in this field.

For Wiradjuri man Ethan Hawke, education has become more than a personal journey - it’s given him the opportunity to support others coming behind him.

Ethan first joined Aurora through our High School Program. Today, he is studying a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at UNSW, becoming the first in his family to attend university, and has returned as an Aurora Mentor.

Now, he’s helping guide the next generation of Indigenous students as they navigate their own pathways.

This is the impact your donation can have.

Students step into opportunities, thrive in their education and go on to create change by giving back to their communities.

As we approach the end of the financial year, join us in supporting Indigenous students to pursue their goals and unlock opportunity. Donate to Aurora today: https://aurorafoundation.com.au/2026-end-of-financial-year-appeal/

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026, All In, is a reminder that reconciliation requires all of us.

It calls on every Australian to commit to meaningful action in advancing reconciliation and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples each and every day.

Real progress happens when we are all willing to step forward, listen, learn and take action together.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we honour Stolen Generations survivors and acknowledge the enduring impact of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities.

This day marks an important moment to confront the truths of our shared history and the lasting impact of these policies, which continue to affect generations today.

We honour the strength of Stolen Generations survivors and recognise the work of individuals and communities who have carried healing forward.
