Learning doesn’t happen in isolation.

For many students, challenges with emotional regulation, peer relationships or managing frustration can affect how they participate in the classroom and engage with their learning.

Our Links at School – Psychology program provides structured, school-based psychological support designed to strengthen the skills that underpin successful learning. Working alongside educators, our psychologists support students to build emotional awareness, develop practical coping strategies, and strengthen social and behavioural skills.

When these foundational skills are supported within the school environment, students are better positioned to participate in class, navigate challenges and stay engaged in their education.

With over 50 years of experience in learning and development, we understand the many factors that can influence a child’s progress - and the value of practical, evidence-based support delivered where students learn every day.

Thanks to the generous support of Dooleys Lidcombe up to 50 students in their local community will be supported to build skills that strengthen both learning and wellbeing.

Many children experiencing learning and developmental difficulties are trying incredibly hard at school - but without the right support, even simple classroom tasks can become overwhelming. Difficulties with literacy, numeracy, attention or learning differences can quietly impact confidence, participation and a child’s sense of belonging.

For many families, accessing assessments and specialised learning support is simply out of reach due to financial pressure, long waitlists, or limited local services. Without early support, children can begin to disengage from learning and fall further behind their peers.

This is why community partnerships are so important - helping ensure children can access support early, before small challenges become lifelong barriers.

Since 2021, Learning Links and Twin Towns have worked together to support more than 200 local children through early intervention and targeted learning support programs.

With the support of Twin Towns, local children have accessed school-based assessment clinics and targeted numeracy intervention programs designed to identify learning difficulties early and provide practical support before children fall further behind. Additional funding through the Learning Opportunity Fund also helped provide specialised literacy and numeracy support to students experiencing significant learning challenges who may otherwise have missed out due to financial hardship.

These programs are about more than academics. They help create opportunities for children to participate with confidence, stay engaged in learning, and feel supported at school - building stronger foundations for their future.

💚 Thank you to Twin Towns for your ongoing commitment to helping local children access the support they need to learn, participate and thrive.

What looks like a “simple task” can feel very different for a child with ADHD.

Listening to instructions, blocking out distractions, sitting still, remembering steps, starting homework and believing “I can do this” can all take much more effort than we realise.

For teachers, these moments might look like a student not listening, rushing, calling out, avoiding work or falling behind.

For parents, it might look like homework battles, forgotten instructions, big emotions after school or a child saying, “Everyone else can do this. Why can’t I?”

But for many children with ADHD, it’s not about laziness, defiance or a lack of effort. It’s about hidden barriers that can affect learning, confidence and participation every day.

With understanding, patience and practical strategies, we can help children with ADHD feel seen, supported and capable of learning.

The Federal Budget includes new investment in earlier support for children, including developmental checks, preschool inclusion, school support, family information and Thriving Kids.

Learning Links welcomes the focus on earlier support and clearer pathways for families.
But implementation matters.

Too many children still fall into the “missing middle” - children with real learning, developmental or wellbeing needs who do not qualify for long-term funded support.

At Learning Links, we believe support should begin when concerns first appear, not only after difficulties become more serious.
