It's nearly planting time! 🌱🌱🪏☀️
Come and join us this SUNDAY, JUNE 14 as we prepare for the winter planting season. The holes will be dug this week, and if our seedlings are ready, we'll start putting them in, building on the biodiversity we've helped to create in this much-loved green space. Bring your gloves, maybe a trowel and your favourite weeding tool - or use ours - and stay for morning tea. Meet at the usual place, the picnic area at the bottom of MINDARIE ST at 10am.

The large cliff formation above the reef platform at the Gull Rock end of Port Willunga beach is looking precarious. Take care not to walk underneath this high risk area, particularly with winter rains coming.

UPDATE: Onkaparinga Council have responded to this issue and you can read their guidelines and intended approach here:

Before you might think about hopping in your kayak and paddling out to see if there’s any calamari for lunch, please be aware of the current ban on Southern Calamari fishing for both professional and recreational fishers brought in on 1st May. Boat owners should already be aware of this.
Calamari were particularly hard hit during the algal bloom so require this protection to enable the species to replenish itself. The protection ban has been mandated under the Fisheries Management Act 2007 and will remain in place at this stage until April 2027 across our entire gulf.
Reassuring news from SARDI director, Prof. Mike Steer is that given this protection, the Calamari population should recover reasonably quickly.

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT RE WAVE PARK. The City of Onkaparinga has called a special Council Assessment Panel (CAP) meeting TOMORROW NIGHT with the only agenda item being the Wave Park project proposed for the Aldinga site on the Corner of Tuit and Bowering Hill Roads. Council staff have again recommended that the CAP approve the application. Follow the link below to register your attendance. The gallery capacity is 35 people. Once this limit is reached, access to the building will be closed to the public.

We suggest that anyone who opposes the development attend if they can.

This CAP meeting is to be held this WEDNESDAY, 29 APRIL 6.30 pm at the Council Chamber, Ramsay Place, Noarlunga Centre.

It is important to note that the legal challenge in the Environmental Resource and Development (ERD) Court continues. If the CAP does approve the development on Wednesday night and the legal challenge is subsequently successful in the ERD Court, then the approval would be cancelled.

Hugo Shaw, who recently passed away in 2025, belonged to the ‘Port Willunga school’ of artists which included Ivor Hele, John Dowie, Anton Riebe, Horace Trenery, Kathleen Sauerbier and Dorrit Black.
"The artists were people who lived, painted and swam at Port Willunga," said Shaw, who had spent the best part of his life doing the same.
On SUNDAY 26 APRIL 2026 4:30PM - 6:30PM, you can attend the Finissage event to mark the end of the "Hugo Shaw Retrospective" exhibition at Waverley Park Homestead. (A finissage is the closing party or final event of an art exhibition).
This has been a highly successful and well appreciated exhibition to celebrate the life and works of significant artist, and friend of Waverley Park Homestead Art Gallery, Hugo Shaw. Following the close of the exhibition, the artworks will be going back to their respective homes.
So this will be your last chance to see a selection of amazing pictures in one place.

Your payment will include a beverage of your choice and profits will go to future exhibitions at Waverley Park Homestead.

Emma Hack initiative. An opportunity to be part of a large scale human art installation at Port Willunga Beach on SUNDAY 12 APRIL honouring the ocean and our state emblem, the Leafy Sea Dragon. This will be captured for broadcast worldwide. Be part of it! See details below.

Want to be part of Emma Hack’s newest coastal artwork installation? 🌊

On Sunday 12 April 2026, 888 adults will gather at Port Willunga Beach (from 7:30am – 12 noon), to form the shape of a leafy sea dragon, South Australia's marine emblem, in a large-scale community artwork for ocean hope captured for broadcast around the world.

What to wear
Participants (aged 18+) will be asked to choose one of the colours from the artist's website but can be as creative with their costume or relaxed as they wish. Think ball gowns, active wear, opp shop with friends, paint your outfit, even paint yourself (no nudity please). All arms and legs should be covered, creating a unified yet diverse human artwork.

The installation will be photographed from above and at ground level.
