Throwback Thursday | A Pooch with the Pawfect Touch

There’s a special kind of care at Sunshine Trust, thanks to George the Australian labradoodle.

George would visit the chemotherapy, radiation, and inpatient wards, spreading comfort and smiles to patients, carers, and staff.

Owner and trainer, Justine Rofe, knows how powerful a gentle moment with a therapy dog can be.

“You see these smiles behind the mask and you can feel their energy shift,” Justine shares. “Most of all, people say thank you for bringing George, and my heart feels full.”

Justine brings George as part of Therapy Dogs NSW, after her own breast cancer journey inspired her to give back.

For one patient, a visit from George turned a rough day around—and weeks later, she was heading home, ready to welcome a dog just like George into her life.

A Morning Tea Filled with Heart, Hope and Community.

Hosted at the Thurgoona Golf Club and organised by the incredible Glenys Clayton, this special Morning Tea brought together more than 77 guests for a day of fundraising, laughter and heartfelt moments, raising an amazing $5,993.69 for the Trust.

Funds were raised through ticket sales, raffle tickets, auction items, donation boxes and even the flowers from the tables, proving that every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.

One of the most moving moments of the day was hearing guest speaker Sarah Ackerly share her personal story and the impact the Trust had on her journey, reminding everyone in the room why community support matters so deeply.

The day was filled with plenty of fun and unforgettable moments, including surprise auction items like a 5kg box of OMO washing powder and a large bag of dog kibble, both sparking lively bidding wars!

The handmade quilts were another crowd favourite, with the stunning Cat Quilt selling for $180.
A heartfelt thank you to the Thurgoona Community Centre for supporting the event through ticket and raffle sales, event promotion, and providing space to organise the raffle and auction items.

Most importantly, thank you to Glenys. Without her dedication, generosity and countless hours spent collecting donated goods and bringing the community together, this event simply would not have been possible.

A beautiful gathering of connection and support for local cancer services.

Throwback Thursday | AWFA State of Origin Charity Fundraiser 2024-2025

Charity Event Scores Big: The best players from the Albury Wodonga Football Association go head-to-head for a cause.

After the first year’s success of the highly anticipated AWFA State of Origin charity fundraiser, it returned for a second year on Saturday 13 September 2025.

Proving to be a monumental success, featuring elite players from the best of the best, the event showcased thrilling matches, with both New South Wales teams claiming victory in the men’s and women’s games.

The atmosphere was electric as fans gathered to witness a display of talent and sportsmanship. The competitive spirit of the players was matched only by the generosity of the supporters, who contributed to the fundraising efforts throughout the event.

“Community events like this one, enable the Sunshine Trust to continue to support cancer patients in our community. This new partnership between AWFA and the Trust Fund is significantly important to us” said Craig Underhill, Ex-Officio Member of Sunshine Trust Board.

"The State of Origin Charity Event is all about community, football and giving back," AWFA president Kiera Hayes said.

“We didn’t just beat last year’s total of $5400, we smashed it and went beyond our 2025 goal. Raising an incredible $10,266 for Sunshine Trust.”
