Regional challenges are best solved together. Today, RDA Murray hosted the Federation Economic Development Roundtable in Corowa, bringing together business, industry, and community leaders for a productive and solutions-focused conversation about the future of the region.

Discussions centred around four key questions:
• What industries are currently driving Federation’s economy, and where is the untapped potential?
• What barriers are holding growth back, particularly around workforce, housing, infrastructure and investment?
• What local initiatives and partnerships are already working well, and how can they be scaled?
• What major opportunity could transform the region over the next five years?

The conversation was open, practical and forward-looking, helping identify both the strengths we can build on and the challenges where stronger advocacy and collaboration are needed.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, ideas and insights. These conversations are critical in shaping a stronger and more resilient regional future.

This week we (The Welcome Experience team) were back on the road in Berrigan and Deniliquin—meeting with local GP clinics, Deniliquin High School, childcare providers and South West Arts.

Once again, we’ve been inspired by the energy and commitment of local services working hard to attract and support skilled essential workers. We’re excited to keep building strong partnerships across Edward River, Murray River and Berrigan Shires.

Recently, we (RDA Murray) attended a migration policy roundtable focused on the experiences of internationally qualified health professionals (IQHPs). During the discussion, there was strong interest in The Welcome Experience service model - a free, place-based, people‑centered relocation and settlement service available to essential workers, including IQHPs.
To better understand the impact of this approach, I invite you to learn about the experience of one of our valued nurses, Emmanuel. His story highlights how our dedicated staff- aptly titled Local Connectors - support internationally trained health professionals and their families through the practical aspects of relocation, while helping them feel genuinely welcomed, supported and connected to their new community. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

We will remember them,
Lest we forget.

This week, the RDA Murray team attended 'Migration, Mobility and Australia’s Healthcare Workforce', a policy roundtable hosted by the University of Sydney, the Settlement Council of Australia, and the Sydney Policy Lab, alongside SCOA.

Representing RDA Murray, Dr Werner Vogels PhD (Policy & Research Manager, RDAM) and Karin Willcox, (Manager of The Welcome Experience (Greater Albury)), participated in discussions exploring how people‑centered migration approaches - grounded in relationships, community and culture -can be more effectively embedded within Australia’s migration system.

The roundtable brought together policymakers, researchers, employers and Internationally Qualified Health Professionals (IQHPs) to examine migration and settlement experiences. Karin contributed as a panelist, sharing practical insights from the NSW Government’s The Welcome Experience model and its application in regional communities.

We thank lead researchers Dr Leah Williams Veazey and Dr Dr Alexandra (Sasha) Block for leading this important work and look forward to ongoing collaboration as the research is published and translated into policy and practice.

“Start by listening. If you want to make a change, we have to understand the people, we have to understand the communities that are closest to the issue. We have to understand the context.”

We asked Arno Parolini, Managing Director of Stats With Purpose, for the best advice he has ever received about making change happen. For Arno, meaningful change starts with trust: listening first, understanding the people closest to the issue, and building solutions with communities, not simply for them.

Stats With Purpose partners with communities, service providers, SMEs and government organisations to turn data and evidence into meaningful action. Through research, analytics and evaluation, they help organisations uncover clear insights, strengthen decision-making, improve services and demonstrate real impact.

Their work supports organisations to identify system-wide opportunities for change, translate evidence into practical recommendations, and create stronger outcomes for the people and communities they serve. Everything they do is guided by a simple ambition: helping organisations and services grow stronger so that people and communities can thrive.

With more than 15 years’ experience across research, data analytics, evaluation and information management, Stats With Purpose brings together technical expertise, lived experience and a deep commitment to professional development. They specialise in supporting small and medium organisations, not-for-profits and service providers operating in sectors where quality, safety and impact matter most — including family violence, child protection, disability and community health.

RDA Murray is incredibly grateful to Arno and the team at Stats With Purpose for sponsoring our recent Regional Futures Forum and helping bring together regional leaders, innovators and changemakers to explore the ideas, partnerships and opportunities that will shape the future of our regions.
