SA Youth Forum‘s 2025 Annual Reports are certainly doing the rounds this last month! 🏎️💨

Already it has been fantastic sharing our insights and stories with these decision makers on a state and local government level. We are so proud of our young people for presenting their work confidently, clearly, and with passion ☀️

Our 2025 Annual Reports are fresh off the PRESS ✨

Seeing double, a flashback to 2022, when our very first report was released, and that proud photoshoot of Amber holding possibility in her hands.

Cut to 2025: the same fringe is back, and TWO reports in her hand 📸🌿

One person might be holding the report in these pics,
but it exists because of SO MANY young people. Their voices, courage, stories, hope. 🗣️🔥

This is only the first of many times you’ll see this report.
Over the next two months, it travels into rooms, onto tables, into conversations that shape what comes next….

A massive congratulations in order for SAYF members and leaders, Eleanor Buckham and Cordelia Stott-Smith for their local council recognition as 2026 Young Citizens of the Year.

Recognised for their outstanding leadership, kindness, volunteered hours, and dedication to youth advocacy in SA 🪸🐠

“Receiving this award was an incredible honour, a tribute to the countless hours consulting, advocating, and connecting with young people through SAYF. Inspired to keep striving for a future where young people feel genuinely heard, this award just motivates me to keep showing up, doing the work, and listening to the stories that surround us.” - Ellie, YCOTY for West Torrens.

“I feel so honoured to have received my council’s Young Citizen of the Year award. There are so many incredible people who could have received this, which makes it feel even more special to have my efforts recognised. More than anything, this recognition is pushing me to do more, to show up fully, represent youth voices, and work toward lasting, sustainable change in the areas I’m deeply passionate about ☮️💫🌿” - Cordy, YCOTY for Charles Sturt.

What a way to start the year off at SAYF ✨🥹

GRWM! Get ready with SAYF to present our 2025 Annual Reports! 🗣️✨📕

As we ring in the new year, it’s critical that our SAYF 2025 members feel confident and prepared to do what feels pretty darn scary at first…. sharing youth experiences and findings with adult decision-makers across all levels of governance and impact ‼️

So brand new to this skill, or just needing a refresher, this meeting was a chance to align on strategy, clarify confusion and ask all the questions.

💞 Story Time!! 💞

This meeting last week was originally a picnic in the parklands, but moving inside due to hot weather, our picnic blanket sat proudly at the table’s centre nevertheless… why?

Years ago, venues often were unfriendly to our monthly program, so we were forced to sit outside for meetings around a picnic blanket like this. Proving difficult for all, but especially for our online regional, rural, remote (or even just busy) young people 💻

Just last year at the SA Government‘s Youth Impact Summit for SA school students’ civic engagement, this little story of SAYF was woven into the event. Swipe to the end for a symbol of perseverance in the face of often difficult circumstances for young people trying to create community and make change ⚡️ This recent meeting was a reminder of that important and ever-appearing story.

Anyways, stay tuned as we start to roll out these meetings and share youth insights with the people in a position to make changes for the better!

The reports are in on SA young people’s 2025.

We’ve got young people aching to share these insights. Want to hear from them? 🪸

The 2025 Annual Reports of the South Australian Youth Forum (SAYF) reflect a milestone year for the organisation. For the first time, SAYF operated two distinct branches - one for young people aged 14-18 and one for young adults aged 18-24 - recognising that while close in age, these cohorts experience, prioritise, and engage with the world in different ways.

💭 8 months of meetings. a unique array of discussions each time.
🌈 70+ topics covered. spoken from personal experience, research, workshops, group discussions, surveys and brainstorms.
🔖 too many stickies, scribbles, and ideas to count.
🔟 a whole decade of voices, split across two killer reports.

Each report will be presented directly to decision-makers at local, state, and federal levels to ensure youth voices are heard and considered in policy and practice.

Both reports are available free of charge to promote accessibility and encourage meaningful youth participation.
We encourage readers to explore both reports to better understand the similarities, contrasts, and insights that emerge across the two branches.

A couple changes in the new year…. 🧹💨

SAYF had a massive 2025. With every year we don’t seem to stop growing.

To be transparent, SAYF currently operates as a volunteer-led group with what we call ‘grassroots structures’ - we want to keep growing and matching our impact. We can’t do that without some major changes….

The plan right now: Core and Executive member applications open late January —> Close end of Feb —> Forum cohort announced & program begins in March.

That’s all we can say for now.🌟

If you’ve been following us for a while and thinking 2026 is your year to join the forum, it still is!

Delaying our start to the year simply ensures we can kick off with renewed strength, future-focus, and the ability to maintain the same magic of youth community and advocacy as before, and as always.

2025 Reports coming up next…. 2026 Applications in the new year.

Cya soon!
