As a Member of South Australia Parliament House in the Legislative Council the Honourable Jing Lee, MLC (South Australia) applies standards to their policy-making. Policy-making in the Australian Parliament is governed by standards prioritizing evidence-based justification, rigorous scrutiny, stakeholder consultation, and clarity in legislation. Key standards include reducing unnecessary regulation, upholding parliamentary privilege while enforcing codes of conduct for behavior, and ensuring compliance with established legislative instruments.
Legislative Standards & Quality: The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) emphasizes that legislation must be no more complex than necessary, with a preference for reducing, not increasing, regulation.
Evidence and Scrutiny: Policies require robust evidence, with drafted laws subject to rigorous examination by Parliament.
Consultation Requirements: Policy development involves consulting key stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and affected parties to avoid poor implementation.
Behavioural Standards: Following the Set the Standard report, new codes of conduct for parliamentarians and staff, enforced by an Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission, mandate respectful and safe workplace behavior.
Mandatory Technical Standards: While usually voluntary, International Standards and/or Australian Standards are often incorporated into legislation by the government, making them mandatory.
Ministerial Standards: Ministers are bound by specific, though not independently enforced, standards regarding their conduct and decision-making.

Happy United Nations Public Service Day! 😊
Today, 23rd June 2025 is United Nations Public Service Day, and this is our tribute to The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor Dr. Jane Lomax-Smith AM of the City of Adelaide, for being the longest serving SA State Minister for Education and Tourism for eight (8) years. Her value adding public service is truly impactful and extraordinary on her unconditional quality time & effort to Australia’s aim & bid to host the COP 31 in the City of Adelaide on 4th quarter of 2026 on her dedication & support for of SDG 13: Climate Action - “Take urgent actions to combat climate change & its impact.” (Bidding Result: COP 31 will be in Turkey, and Australia is the Negotiations President in shaping global actions for 2026).
She is one of the best epitomes of Public Servant in today's Digital World and the World for Tomorrow to SDG4 - Quality Education. Thank you so much for your excellent speech on World Standards Day 2024 held in The Braggs Theatre, University of Adelaide, City of Adelaide, South Australia - the hashtag , as we look forward to the effective & efficient implementation of the legislation on "The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024". Thank you for shaping Adelaide into a better place through your sustainable goals and mission for Shared Vision for a Better World, and for implementing right away your plans & programs in alignment with the 2024 World Standards Day main theme of "Spotlight on SDG9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure in the Age of AI".

The 2025 United Nations Public Service Forum is now taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from 23 to 25 June 2025, under the theme "Five Years to 2030: Accelerating Public Service Delivery for a Sustainable Future".
With only five years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, accelerating action in public administration and service delivery has become more urgent than ever. Meeting the 2030 goals requires resilience, enhanced collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind.
By harnessing digital technology, fostering innovation, and building strong partnerships, governments can reimagine inclusive public services that effectively reach underserved communities and close the last-mile gap.
The Forum brings together representatives of governments, international organizations, academia and civil society, national public servants and other stakeholders to identify actions needed to accelerate public sector innovation to meet these objectives.

Happy Australian National Volunteer Week 19-25 May 2025! 😊
We celebrate the power of volunteering to bring people together with the theme ‘Connecting Communities’. The celebration of World Standards Day is through the talent-heroes of World Standards Festival who volunteered and created lasting relationships that enrich lives and strengthen communities. World Standards Festival acknowledges the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building thriving and inclusive communities.
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has various standards related to volunteer involvement, particularly in emergency response and recovery. ISO 22319:2017 provides guidelines for integrating spontaneous volunteers in incident response and recovery, helping organizations manage these volunteers effectively.
ISO 22319:2017 Security & Resilience: Planning for Spontaneous Volunteers. This standard focuses on how organizations can plan for and utilize spontaneous volunteers (SVs) in incident response and recovery.
It helps organizations determine whether, how, and when SVs can be effectively used to provide relief and coordinate response efforts.
It emphasizes the importance of ensuring the safety of SVs, the public they assist, and incident response staff.
The standard is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations involved in planning and managing SVs, including governments, international organizations, businesses, and community groups.
Other ISO Standards and Volunteering
ISO 9001:
This focuses on quality management and customer satisfaction, helping to improve their services and processes related to volunteering.
ISO 45001:
This standard relates to occupational health and safety, and it emphasizes the importance of involving workers (including volunteers) in decision-making processes.
ISO 26000:
This standard focuses on social responsibility and encourages organizations to address issues relevant to their stakeholders, which can include volunteers.
ISO 31000:
This standard provides guidance on risk management, which can be applied to managing volunteer programs and activities.
In Search of Safety (ISOS) Program:
The In Search of Safety program (ISOS) is an initiative of the Australian Red Cross, aiming to raise awareness about asylum seekers and refugees.
ISOS volunteers help improve public understanding by delivering interactive sessions in schools and community settings.
