Member spotlight: Shining a light on service, Lion Trevor Heinjus

Trevor is a devoted family man, supported by his wife, Lyn, and their son, TJ. He has built an impressive career, dedicating 45 years of service to Agpoint Australia with loyalty, hard work, and commitment.

Why Lions?

He joined because his extended family joined AFLC. His simple answer captures the true spirit of Lions. It is coming together with family, friends, and fellow volunteers to help others and make a difference in the community.

The barbecue boss

Trevor has earned a well-deserved reputation as the Club’s head honcho in fundraising efforts, particularly sausage sizzles. Always cool, organised, and ready to fire up the grill, he keeps the team on track and makes sure everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

A life of service

Trevor’s commitment to helping others extends beyond Lions. He has been an active member of the Country Fire Service (CFS) since 1996, showing his long-standing dedication to serving and protecting the community.

Outside of Lions and the CFS, Trevor enjoys lawn bowls, badminton, and pistol club activities. Whether responding to a community call, supporting fellow Lions, or firing up the barbecue, Trevor brings the same spirit of teamwork, reliability, and service to everything he does.

We warmly invite everyone to our upcoming Lions Club meeting on 16 October at Smithfield and Social Club.

Member Spotlight: Shining a light on service Lucito Arel Agnazata Yatar Jr.

Arel is a proud Filipino migrant whose journey to Australia is built on family, hard work, faith, and service. Moving to Australia meant leaving his wife Edelyn and son Enzo in the Philippines for a better future. He is a mechanical engineer now working as a mechanical engineering technician with an Australian lifting and rigging company.

Why Lions?

Arel joined the AFLC because he wanted to give back to the community that welcomed him. “Australia has become my second home and I want to give back the blessings I have received,” he said. He added that through Lions, he found a “family” that shares the same passion for helping others and making a difference.

For Arel, Lions is more than an organisation. It is a place where he can build friendships, serve others, and make a positive difference.

Music, faith, and service

Outside of work, Arel enjoys playing the guitar. His love of music and service began at a young age when he served as an altar server and later became a musician during Catholic Mass. He believes every talent is a gift that should be shared with others.

His story is a reminder that success is not only about personal achievements, but also about the difference one makes in the lives of others. Wherever life takes him, he says he will “always serve with humility, give with gratitude, and inspire others through action.”

Appreciation Message –
Chatty Open Door: Coffee & Zumba Community Event

What an incredible morning we had today. Truly! ❤️

To everyone who turned up and helped make our event come alive—thank you! A special thank you to our committee and everyone who worked behind the scenes. The energy, teamwork, and spirit of service flowed so beautifully.

We were delighted to welcome community members from Gawler, Salisbury, the City of Playford, and the South of Adelaide. Many came not only for the Zumba or the coffee, but also to connect, engage, and meet new people for the very first time. Watching those conversations begin and new connections form was such a joy.

Everything was in sync today. The Zumba, the coffee, and the arroz caldo! ☕💃🥣 Most importantly, everyone served with heart.

Well done, Adelaide Filipino Lions Club! 🦁❤️
