Ara Irititja

Ara Irititja Ara Irititja supports the cultural heritage of the Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara and Ngaanyatjarra people in the form of a multimedia digital archive.

Ara Irititja's page is to let people know who we are and to share some of our important successes and milestones. Ara Irititja, translated into English from Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, means 'stories from the past'. However, the past could be yesterday. Yesterday's story is tomorrow's history. Ara Irititja was established in 1994, for the purpose of bringing back home materials of

cultural and historical significance to Anangu. These include photographs, films, sound recordings and documents from cultural institutions and individuals. Ara Irititja initiated and guided purpose-built software now known as Keeping Culture KMS. This software stores multimedia material which Anangu have access to by way of a password. Anangu are passionate about protecting their heritage. Ara Irititja is playing a useful and innovative role in doing just that.
