💜 MEDIA RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

🎶 Launch of “Rotary for Respect” Campaign — and Soundtrack/Music Video — to Help Make South Australia a State of Peace 🕊️

South Australia is set to take a powerful step forward in preventing domestic, family and sexual violence, with the official launch of Rotary for Respect – Make South Australia a State of Peace 💜

The initiative comes at a critical time, following the findings of the Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence 📄, which highlighted the urgent need for coordinated, whole-of-community action to address the drivers of violence and strengthen prevention efforts.

In a unique and engaging approach to community awareness 🎥🎵, a song and music video has been released to coincide with the campaign launch, providing a powerful and accessible way to spread the message of respect, safety and cultural change across the state.

💻 Rotary for Respect (Make South Australia a State of Peace) is now available to stream on online music platforms, and the music video is attached to this post. Versions for other States and Territories are expected to follow soon 🌏

Led by the Rotary Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Prevention Committee in District 9510 🤝, the campaign brings together Rotary clubs across South Australia and beyond to drive cultural change, promote respectful relationships, and position communities as leaders in prevention.

Chair of the Committee, Paul Della, said Rotary is committed to playing a practical role in supporting the implementation of the Royal Commission’s recommendations:

🗣️ “The Royal Commission has given us a clear roadmap. ‘Rotary for Respect’ is about taking that next step — turning recommendations into real, visible action in our communities.”

He added:

🎶 “The release of a song alongside the campaign gives us another way to connect — to reach people emotionally as well as intellectually. Music has the power to unite communities and reinforce the message that respect must be at the heart of who we are.”

Rotary’s approach aligns with its global focus on Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention 🕊️, recognising that domestic, family and sexual violence is one of the most significant barriers to safe and thriving communities.

💬 “If we are serious about peace, it must start in our homes, our schools, our workplaces and our communities. Respect is the foundation of peace — and this campaign puts that principle into action.”

🌍 A Statewide Movement

Rotary for Respect will be delivered through a coordinated, grassroots approach across South Australia, with Rotary clubs empowered to take local action through:

📚 Community education and awareness initiatives, including bystander training
💜 Events such as Purple Waves of Change, Purple Fridays, and Walk for Respect
🤝 Partnerships with local organisations, councils, and service providers
📣 Advocacy for respectful relationships and cultural change

“These initiatives are not just moments — they are part of a movement 🌊. A movement to make respect visible in our communities, not just as a message, but as a shared expectation.”

🌏 Looking Ahead: A Broader Vision for Peace

Rotary hopes the campaign will extend beyond South Australia, evolving into a broader national and regional movement:

“Our vision is to see this grow into ‘Rotary for Respect – Make each State and Territory a State and Territory of Peace’, and ultimately ‘Make Australia a Nation of Peace’ 🕊️. Within Rotary’s own footprint, we see an opportunity to position Rotary South Pacific as a region of peace — demonstrating what is possible when communities lead cultural change.”

📣 A Call to Action

Rotary is calling on individuals, organisations, businesses and all levels of government to support the campaign and help build a future where everyone feels safe, valued and respected 💜

“Making South Australia a State of Peace and Australia a Nation of Peace is an ambitious goal — but it is achievable if we work together 🤝.”

Because enough is enough.

Together we say NO to domestic, family and sexual violence 💜
And YES to respectful relationships, safety and peace 🕊️

👕 A practical step businesses and communities can take is wearing a purple “Rotary Says NO to Domestic Violence and YES to Respectful Relationships” shirt every Friday. Shirts can be ordered for $50 each via [email protected]

What a wonderful National Reconciliation Week lunch at Rotary Adelaide today.
🖤💛❤️

We were privileged to hear from Marius Liddle whose honest and insightful reflections on reconciliation, lived experience, and his professional expertise sparked meaningful conversation and thoughtful discussion among our members and guests.

We also enjoyed hearing from Nick Liebig, Rotary Adelaide’s Centenary PhD Scholar, who shared an update on his research and the impact this scholarship is having on his academic journey. It was inspiring to learn about the innovative work being undertaken through the support of Rotary Adelaide and our commitment to education, research, and creating positive change.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “ALL IN,” reminds us that reconciliation requires commitment from all Australians. Marius’s presentation challenged us to reflect on the role each of us can play in building stronger relationships, economic opportunities, deeper understanding, and a more inclusive future.

Thank you to both Marius and Nick for sharing your knowledge, experiences, and stories.Together, they made for a truly engaging and thought-provoking lunch.

Thank you also to all our visitors and guests who came along today. We hope you’ll come again.

Tonight, volunteers from Rotary Adelaide rolled up their sleeves at Ronald McDonald House for Meals from the Heart ❤️

This beautiful volunteer program brings people together to prepare and serve fresh, home-cooked meals for families staying at Ronald McDonald House North Adelaide while their children are in hospital.

After long and emotional days, having dinner ready and waiting can make a world of difference for families doing it tough.

We’re proud to support such an important initiative and grateful to our Rotary Adelaide volunteers for giving their time and donations tonight to help make families feel a little more at home 🍽️

National Reconciliation Week (27 May–3 June) is almost here. This year’s theme, “All In”, reminds us that reconciliation isn’t something we watch from the sidelines. It’s something we do, together, every day.

Reconciliation cannot rest on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples alone. For too long, they have carried the burden of advocating for change. Being “all in” means showing up with respect, understanding and a willingness to learn.

At its heart, reconciliation is built on trust, listening and learning. The more we understand culture, history and lived experience, the more we recognise the strength and leadership within First Nations communities. Different ways of knowing don’t compete. They strengthen us all.
