We had a very small group at Saturday's workshop on Buttons and Seams, but everyone learned how to sew a button, we had a go at a few different methods to repair a seam, and even tried embroidery, just for fun.

14/08/2026

Bookings are closed for tomorrow's workshop about mending buttons and seams. There is space for up to 2 walk-ins. If you're keen, enquire at the door before 10.30am.

🗞️ Our Plastic Free July newspaper bin liner workshop was a lovely, cosy affair last weekend at One Planet Market!

Turns out that folding a sturdy bin liner from newspaper is trickier than it looks — plenty of concentration faces in the room. 🤨

Big shoutout to two young origami experts who picked it up in no time and entertained us with other expert folds. 🙌

Thanks to everyone who came along and gave it a go. Small, hands-on sessions like this are what One Planet Market is all about.

Next month: Buttons and Seams, a mending workshop. Book via Eventbrite as numbers are limited.

🌏 This month's One Planet Market talk was an eye-opener. Professor John Boland joined us to unpack two of the biggest environmental stories in SA right now: extreme weather events and the algal bloom. Graphs, stats, the lot — but the real gold was in the practical takeaways. Here's what stuck with us:

💪 Get fit, stay resilient — Personal fitness isn't just about you. The fitter we are, the better we can handle heat, stress, and the physical toll of extreme weather.
🤝 Know your neighbours — Community connection is climate resilience. When things go sideways, it's the people next door who show up first. Say hi, swap numbers, check in.
🏛️ Get involved locally — Your council likely has grants and projects for cooling urban spaces and regreening the landscape. Have a look, get involved, or just ask what's happening in your area.

Huge thanks to Professor Boland for such a thoughtful and grounded talk. This is exactly why we love these sessions — real science, real community, real action. 🌱

See you at next month's workshop for Plastic Free July!
