SSAA Farmer Assist is a program developed by the Sporting Shooters' Association of Australia to provide landholders with accredited volunteers to assist with pest management. Currently fully operational only in Queensland, this program will extend to other states in the near future. SSAA members from Tasmania and Western Australia can now begin the registration process so we can build capacity to

go live to farmers in the near future. SSAA members participating in this program have all achieved a skill competency equivalent to the requirements of a professional shooter. SSAA members have also committed to operating under a Code of Practice that demands safety, animal welfare and ethical behaviour.

πŸ“’ Farmer Assist Update – New Accreditation Pathway Recognised

We're pleased to announce that Farmer Assist now recognises the nationally accredited unit AHCPMG304 – Use Fi****ms to Humanely Destroy Animals as an approved pathway for participation in the program.

This means that members who have successfully completed AHCPMG304 through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) can now use this qualification to meet the Farmer Assist competency requirements without needing to complete the Farmer Assist assessment target pathway.

βœ… Recognised national competency
βœ… Demonstrates practical and humane animal destruction skills
βœ… No additional Farmer Assist target assessment required
βœ… Simply upload your Statement of Attainment to your Farmer Assist profile

This change aligns Farmer Assist with nationally recognised training standards while maintaining the high levels of safety, marksmanship, animal welfare and professionalism expected of our volunteers.

If you have already completed AHCPMG304, sign up and upload your Statement of Attainment to join the team.

Together, we're making it easier for skilled and qualified shooters to assist Australian landholders in managing pest animals.

🚨 Big news today! 🚨

The Tasmanian Government has provided funding to help promote our program across Tasmania.

This support will allow us to raise greater awareness of the work we do, help more landholders manage over abundant wildlife, and create more opportunities for our members to get involved and make a real difference on the ground.

We’re excited about what this means for the future and look forward to working with more communities across Tasmania.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the program and its positive impact. πŸ‘

The evolution of pest management is here.

Farmer Assist is now more than just connecting landholders with volunteers β€” it is becoming a structured, evidence-based pest control program that captures real-world outcomes and demonstrates the value of SSAA members across Australia.

By linking Farmer Assist with the SSAA Activity Log, we can now help deliver:

βœ… Verified volunteer participation
βœ… Structured pest animal control activities
βœ… Standardised data collection
βœ… Tracking of species seen and controlled
βœ… Volunteer hours and effort reporting
βœ… Regional travel and economic contribution data
βœ… Property and regional trend analysis
βœ… Evidence-based reporting opportunities

This creates stronger opportunities for:
β€’ Supporting landholders
β€’ Demonstrating conservation outcomes
β€’ Strengthening government engagement
β€’ Improving advocacy for hunting and pest management
β€’ Showcasing the contribution of volunteers to regional Australia

The future of volunteer pest management is not just action β€” it is measurable action.

Great to be on the ground at the Tocal Field Days, working alongside Vertebrate Pest Managers Australia and their member Australian Environmental Vertebrate Pest Management Services, to promote practical pest animal solutions for landholders.

Programs like SSAA Farmer Assist and professional pest managers each play an important role. Together, we offer landholders access to both skilled volunteers and professional servicesβ€”working as a team to get on top of pest animal issues.

This is what real collaboration looks like.
Different approaches, shared goals.

By working together, we can:
β€’ Provide more options for landholders
β€’ Deliver better, coordinated outcomes
β€’ Support regional communities and environments

Stronger partnerships = better results on the ground.
