🌏 A Million Stories, One Strong Community
The event was a powerful celebration of courage, resilience, diversity and belonging. It was truly inspiring to hear the remarkable journeys of refugees and asylum seekers who have overcome immense challenges to make extraordinary contributions to our community. The stories shared by former Governor of South Australia Hon Hieu Van Le, Flying Officer Kbora Ali, and Vicki Achiro Juma from Adelaide City FC reminded us that every refugee brings strength, talent, hope and a story worth celebrating.
It was great to connect with Hon Nadia Clancy MP, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Louise Miller-Frost MP, Mira El Dannawi MLC, Mayor Michael Coxon,CEO ARA Chris Chalubek,
Cr Quy Tran, SA Multicultural Commission Chair Luisa Greco, Irene Rowe, Costa Rofe ,
and the dedicated team from the Department of Home Affairs, alongside many community leaders, changemakers and advocates committed to building a stronger and more inclusive South Australia.
It was also lovely to catch up with Engineer Mansoor Janjua , sister Etty Garabelli, Peter Taylor (Diversity & Inclusion Officer of SLSC) and many respected leaders and changemakers from our multicultural communities, whose dedication continues to enrich the social fabric of South Australia.
The program concluded on a high note with a fantastic Sufi music performance by renowned Pakistani singer Farhan Ali Shah, bringing people together through the universal language of music and culture.
Congratulations to Ms Mersia Bunjaku, CEO of the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC), and the entire AMRC team for delivering an outstanding 2026 South Australian Refugee Week Launch, "A Million Stories", at the beautiful Adelaide Town Hall.
Refugee Week reminds us that behind every journey is a story of resilience, courage, hope and determination. Together, we can continue building a South Australia where everyone feels welcomed, valued, included and empowered to thrive.
