What a fantastic day at the Invictus Australia - South Australia Defence Community Sport Expo!

Legacy was thrilled to be part of the action last weekend — it was heartwarming to connect with so many wonderful families and our Legacy Army Bear was a superstar, joining in the fun from a lively game of pickleball to an exciting round of wheelchair football!

It was truly inspiring to see families engaging with the Legacy Army bear and stopping by the Legacy stand. We loved sharing how our range of services and support are making a difference. Thank you to everyone who came out and made the day so much fun.

We are proud to share that members of our Youth Committee, together with Legatees who support families with youth, have recently completed Youth Mental Health First Aid training. This important program delivered by , has equipped our Legatees with the skills to recognise early signs of worry or distress, respond with compassion, and connect young people to the right supports.

Our newly certified volunteers learned how to listen without judgment, reduce stigma around mental health, and build safer, more resilient spaces for our youth to thrive.

We are inspired by our Legatees dedication and grateful for the positive impact this will have for the families these legatees’ support.

Last week the Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill took part in a Community Connections event hosted in Mt Gambier by Veterans SA.

Legacy joined with the Minister for Veteran Affairs Joe Szakacs MP, the team from Veterans SA, several ex-service organisations along with local representatives from SAPOL, Regional Development Australia and other local Members of Parliament for this event.

For Legacy, spending time on the Limestone Coast connecting with beneficiaries and members of the local veteran community was both meaningful and invaluable. Engaging face to face with veterans and their families, listening to their experiences, answering questions, and sharing information reinforces why outreach opportunities like this are so important.

Supporting families remains at the heart of Legacy’s mission. Conversations such as these remind us that while services and programs matter, it is connection, collaboration and community that truly make the difference.

"Legacy has been there in ways I never expected."

When Leah’s husband Matt — a former Army Armourer who served for over a decade — passed away in 2021, she was faced with grief, uncertainty, and the challenge of helping her boys understand life without their dad.

Legacy was able to step in and support Leah and her two young boys, Nathaniel and Oscar, when they needed it most.

Today’s eligibility expansion means more families like Leah’s will now be able to access support during life’s hardest moments.

“From the first meeting, nothing was too much trouble…. it’s like a big family” — Leah Kemp, Legacy Beneficiary
