⭐World Press Freedom Day is observed annually on 3 May to highlight the importance of protecting press freedom globally. It is also a day to acknowledge the commitment of journalists and those working in media who seek to report global news objectively and truthfully for all of us.

🌍The United Nations reports that over the past decade there has been a marked increase in violations against media freedom including physical attacks on journalists, intimidation, detention, and censorship of information.

📣This year the 'Shaping A Future of Peace' conference in Lusaka, Zambia brought attention to the continuing need for press freedom to be protected, and governments held accountable when violations occur. The conference also emphasised the connection between press freedom and upholding fundamental human rights.

📝World Press Freedom Day is an important opportunity for us to all consider how the news we receive can be affected by those in power, and how violations to press freedom can undermine civilian rights to truthful information.

⭐Congratulations to Suzanne Pepe who received the Regional Achievement Award at the 2025 Governor’s Multicultural Awards. Suzanne is pictured fourth from the left with other recipients at the award ceremony on 4 March.

🏆Suzanne has supported Mount Gambier's multicultural community since 2014. She has developed trauma-informed programs enabling refugee students to learn English while adjusting, fostering safety, belonging and inclusion. Her support extends beyond school, providing emergency supplies, meals and advocating for cultural celebrations. In doing so she has helped reduce isolation, promoted trauma survivor recovery, and facilitated community integration, demonstrating exceptional dedication to refugees and multiculturalism in the region.

🌍Suzanne was nominated for the award by STTARS Regional Coordinator Sophie Coote. All of us at STTARS extend a heartfelt congratulations to Suzanne for her thoroughly well deserved award.

⭐At STTARS we offer a range of therapeutic options for our clients, including group activities. STTARS groups facilitate connection, learning and joyful experiences.

🌳These photos show one of our STTARS groups enjoying a beautiful day at Morialta Conservation Park in October last year. The purpose of this group was to provide a safe space for women to make social connections while enjoying the beauty of nature.

🦋STTARS group activities create opportunities for connection and personal growth, facilitated by compassionate trained professionals.

⭐March 21st marks the annual observation of Harmony Day. Harmony Day reminds us of something we see every day at STTARS — that strong, welcoming communities are built when people from many cultures, languages and experiences come together with respect and care.

🌍The people we work alongside have often survived war, persecution and displacement. Rebuilding life in a new country takes courage, connection and a sense of belonging. Harmony Day is a chance to celebrate the richness that cultural diversity brings to our communities and to recognise the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels safe, valued and included.

🙏At STTARS, we are proud to walk alongside survivors of torture and trauma as they rebuild their lives and strengthen the communities around them.

⭐️Together, we create places where healing, hope and belonging can grow.

🌙Happy Eid al Fitr from all of us at STTARS! We hope your Eid celebrations are full of joy and peace. ✨🕌
