🎤 Speaker Spotlight: Terry Lee-Williams

What if walking wasn't an afterthought in transport planning, but the starting point?

That's the question Terry Lee-Williams will be tackling at .

Terry is Principal and Director of Urban Transport at Egis in Sydney, with a career spanning government and consultancy roles across Australia and overseas. He's known for generating debate and fresh ideas on everything from pedestrian-friendly traffic signals and infrastructure pricing to the relationship between walking, public transport and place.

At AWCC 2026, Terry will explore how we make walking the basis of transport planning, drawing on his experience at senior levels across the sector. He understands how change happens and, just as importantly, why it so often doesn't.
Expect practical insights, big-picture thinking and reflections on creating transport systems that work better together.

👉 Who else thinks walking deserves to come first in transport planning? Drop a 🚶‍♀️/🚶‍♂️/🥾/🚶 below if you agree!

Is it time to rethink the way we move?

As James Laing highlights, the fuel crisis isn’t just a challenge - it’s a “rare window” to act on solutions we already have.

Short, everyday trips - school runs, local shops, catching up with friends - are exactly where walking and cycling can step in.

The Australian Walking and Cycling Conference 2026 will explore how we make those choices easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.

🎤 We’re excited to introduce our Australian keynote speaker, Prue Oswin.

Prue is a Chartered Professional Engineer and founder of Sidelines Traffic, which she has led since 2017. She has overseen major planning projects, authored technical guidelines, guided local government designs, and developed training programs for practitioners. Prue is also a strong advocate for women and children in transport, including through her work with the Transport Australia Women in Transport Committee.

Prue will help us rethink resistance to active travel through a project based lens, showing how community insight can identify the small but critical links such as crossings, paths and connections that unlock and expand walking and cycling networks.
