Our Chief Executive, Shona Reid, has started to get out to our regional offices and recently spent a wonderful couple of days in Mount Gambier, connecting with AFSS staff, carers, children, young people, Elders and local organisations.

During her visit, Shona spent time with our teams, visited one of our residential homes and gained a deeper understanding of the important work AFSS is doing across the South East.

A highlight was seeing the strong relationships and collaboration between local organisations, all working together to support children and families.

Shona also enjoyed spending time with Elders, sharing stories and discovering family connections, along with plenty of laughs and special moments with children and young people.

A big thank you to everyone who made Shona feel so welcome and generously shared their time, knowledge and stories!

AFSS was proud to be represented at the 2026 Child Protection & Family Support Awards by Executive Manager Ebony Marshall, Community Safety and Wellbeing Manager Stacey Kromwyk, and Intensive Family Services Manager Jaydee Pressler, alongside other members of the leadership team who are not pictured.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity to come together with colleagues and sector partners to celebrate the achievements, dedication and contributions of those working tirelessly to support children, young people and families across South Australia.

AFSS was pleased to be part of this important occasion, recognising the commitment, passion and significant impact of professionals across the child protection and family support sector.

We acknowledge the valuable work undertaken every day to strengthen families, support communities and improve outcomes for children and young people.

Foster & Kinship Carers Week 2026

This week, we’re celebrating and saying a heartfelt thank you to our 450 foster and kinship carers across South Australia who open their homes, hearts and lives to Aboriginal children and young people.

On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of bringing some of our metro carers together at Sunnybrae Farm for our Carers Lunch - a chance to celebrate, connect and recognise the incredible contribution carers and their families make every day. Members of the AFSS Board were pleased to host the afternoon and join our carers in celebrating their incredible contribution.

It was a beautiful afternoon filled with good food, culture, connection and plenty of laughs.

To all our kinship and foster carers - thank you for everything you do to help children and young people feel safe, supported and connected to family, culture and community.

You make a difference every day.
