Volunteering SA&NT recently joined the Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA) for a Community Development session exploring how organisations can better engage, support and retain volunteers from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Our Program Coordinator, Sofiann Saidi, shared VSA&NT’s work around inclusive volunteering, including the importance of listening to lived experience and turning those insights into tools and resources for volunteer-involving organisations.

The session also spotlighted resources developed to support the engagement of newly arrived migrant volunteers, our Inclusive Volunteering Snapshots, and opportunities for organisations to connect and learn through the Inclusive Volunteering Community of Practice and State Volunteer Manager Network.

A big thank you to Somi Lindsay and the MCCSA team for bringing organisations together for this important conversation, and to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.

Yesterday marked the conclusion of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC’s term as Governor of South Australia.

Volunteering SA&NT was pleased to attend a farewell reception at Government House, hosted by Her Excellency and Mr Rod Bunten, and to personally thank her for her valued support over the past five years.

As Patron of Volunteering SA&NT, Her Excellency championed the important role of volunteers and helped recognise the people whose generosity, time and commitment strengthen communities across South Australia.

This photo, taken at Government House with the 2026 South Australian Volunteer Awards winners, reflects that support and Her Excellency’s commitment to recognising and celebrating volunteers' contributions.

Governing for NFP Volunteer Board Performance

Join Volunteering SA&NT and VUCA for a one-day facilitated course designed for current and aspiring not-for-profit board members, and executives who report to boards.

Governing for NFP Volunteer Board Performance will explore the practical responsibilities of volunteer boards, including legal and financial obligations, risk, accountability, stakeholder management, organisational culture, sustainability and the board’s role in strategy.

The course will use practical insights, case studies and discussion to help participants better understand board roles and responsibilities, strengthen governance knowledge, and apply key governance principles in real-world not-for-profit and volunteer-involving organisation settings.

The session will be facilitated by David A Spear FAICD FAIM, who brings more than 25 years’ experience in commercial business management, governance, strategic leadership, strategy, risk, membership associations and chairmanship across the not-for-profit sector. David is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management, and has studied Board Governance at Harvard Business School.

This course is suitable for:
- Current or aspiring not-for-profit directors who want to strengthen their governance skills
- Executives and senior staff who report to boards and want to better understand board priorities and expectations

Numbers are limited to support an interactive learning experience.

Young South Australians are showing just how much of a difference volunteering can make.

Through the SVA Service Award, young people are contributing to their communities while gaining valuable skills, confidence, connections and experience.

The impact speaks for itself: 100% reported increased confidence, 93% improved mental health and 70% developed stronger social connections.

And there’s much more to come. With the South Australian Government commitment of a $1 million investment over the next four years, the program will expand to more schools and open the door for thousands more young people to get involved.
