Autism SA was excited to attend the launch of the Flinders Autism Research Initiative (ARI) on Wednesday the 26th of May. ARI highlights the importance of collaboration between research, government and Autism SA, as the South Australian autism peak body.

The ARI, led by Flinders University, brings together partners to strengthen collaboration and improve outcomes for autistic people and their families.

Rebecca Morton, Executive Manager of Clinical Care and Community at Autism SA, served as Master of Ceremonies at the official launch on 26 May. The event was attended by representatives from government and research, including Minister for Autism MP Lucy Hood and Professor Robyn Young as ARI founder.

💜 Yoga for Connection – Supporting Autistic Community through Movement and Mindfulness
A huge thank you to everyone who joined or supported the Yoga for Connection project for the autism and Autistic community 💙

Autism SA recently delivered Yoga for Connection, a community wellbeing initiative designed to support emotional wellbeing, connection and regulation through accessible yoga and mindfulness practices.

Developed in response to community feedback, the program focused on creating inclusive, low‑pressure and sensory-considerate environments for autistic people and those important in their lives.

Across two program streams, 66 participants took part in the initiative, including autistic children, adults and family members.

Key outcomes
💜100% of participants reported feeling more calm and relaxed after sessions
💜100% reported feeling comfortable during sessions
💜90% of participants attending with someone important to them felt more connected

Participants highlighted the importance of flexible, predictable and neuro‑affirming environments that support different communication styles, sensory needs and ways of participating.

The project also included a series of accessible yoga and mindfulness videos, designed to support ongoing wellbeing, regulation and connection beyond the sessions.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.
National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June and is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how we can contribute to reconciliation.

This year’s theme, All In, calls on everyone to commit to reconciliation through everyday actions — by listening, learning and taking meaningful steps towards respectful relationships.

Autism SA acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we live and work, and pays respect to Elders past and present.
