Two portable long service leave schemes operate in SA.

Ours, for construction workers, has been running since 1977, governed by the Construction Industry Long Service Leave Act 1987. The newer Community Services scheme operates under separate legislation for a different workforce and is managed independently.

Spring in South Australia often means new projects beginning.

If you're taking on new workers this spring, don't forget to register them through your Employer Portal.

New workers can be added individually or uploaded in bulk via spreadsheet.

Under the Construction Industry scheme, workers need 2,600 service days to be eligible for long service leave.

That’s the same as 10 years of service.

The scheme manages long service leave on workers’ behalf, so their entitlements are protected even if they move between employers.

The Construction Industry scheme supports eligible workers to build long service leave as they move between employers and projects. It also helps employers meet their registration, reporting and levy obligations.
