Homebirth Australia HBA is the peak national body for Homebirth in Australia. For over fourty five years, HBA has worked to support consumers and midwives who choose homebirth.

The organisation is run by volunteers – consumers and midwives. Homebirth Australia is the peak Australian homebirth body. Our members are consumers, midwives and related health professionals committed to ensuring the survival of homebirth as a birth option for Australian women. The votes have spoken! To try and accommodate for the greatest number, we have two community meetings scheduled.

You must register for these meetings - comment "Grandmother" for the links or head to the ol' b.i.o if on insta.

Right now, we are just asking for those who are able and interested in helping co-ordinate this with us, whether on a local or greater level - for those who can't help much in the lead up but will be there with bells on, you guys hang tight and we will share more info ASAP!

We are officially out of options - it's time to mobilise.

If you have the capacity to help co-ordinate something locally or at a higher level, please help us out by voting in the poll on instagram or on stories (not sure if it works in stories on FB or if you'll need to go to instagram) to tell us when you join a zoom call to put a plan of attack together.

We have some ideas for multipronged approach but we'd love to bring people together to get feedback on our ideas and for people to contribute more ideas if they have them and make sure that we can make this as loud and as big as possible.

We will be working with a very short time frame to get this moving, so if you've got any capacity or enthusiasm to assist, we would love to hear from you.

Have a story to share, knowledge to contribute, or an idea that could bring our homebirth community together?

Homebirth Australia invites you to contribute to our 38th HBA Conference!
🌱 Homegrown Homebirth: Connecting Communities. 5–7 June 2027, Darwin NT

Homebirth is more than a place of birth. It's shaped by the people, relationships, knowledge, experiences and communities that make it possible.

We want to celebrate the richness of homebirth and welcome the many voices that make our community what it is.

What could you share?

🌿 Research, evidence and midwifery practice
🌿 Birth stories and lived experience
🌿 Community connection, culture and knowledge
🌿 Advocacy and access to homebirth
🌿 Postpartum, family and community experiences
🌿 Workshops, panels, creative projects and new ideas

You don't need to be an academic or an experienced presenter to have something valuable to share.

We warmly encourage submissions from homebirthing families, midwives, students, birthworkers, researchers, advocates, emerging voices and people whose perspectives are often underrepresented in traditional conference spaces.

Have an idea that doesn't fit neatly into these categories? We'd still love to hear from you!

Have you had your say?

Just a reminder that submissions to the Australian Senate inquiry into women’s experiences of pregnancy and postpartum healthcare close this Friday, 9 October 2026.

If you’ve been meaning to share your experience, there’s still time.

You don’t need to be an expert or write a formal submission. Your lived experience of postpartum care matters — what worked well, what was missing, what support you received, and what you believe could be better.

For our community, this is an opportunity to help the Committee understand what postpartum care looks like in real life, including the value of continuity, relationship-based care and access to the support women need after birth.

We’ve created a simple submission template to help you get started.
