Dear Friends,
It is with much sadness that we announce the closing down of German Shepherd Dog Rescue SA Inc. Over the last ten years, we have rehomed over 400 dogs and have supported many owners to keep their beloved pets. We have done this with a very small team of dedicated volunteers.

Over the last year, we have seen a significant drop in adoption applications making it much harder to find homes for dogs. This, coupled with challenges and changes to health and family situations for many of our key volunteers, has meant that we have made the difficult decision to close the rescue. All GSD Rescue SA Inc. assets will go to another registered rescue with similar aims.

Our heartfelt thanks to our incredibly dedicated volunteers and donors, to the responsible breeders who support their dogs long after they have left their kennels, and to you all, our wonderful friends. By spreading the word, you have all helped this gorgeous breed so much.

While GSD Rescue SA will no longer be here to help, please don’t forget there are amazing rescue organisations across SA. Please use a reputable rescue organisation if you need to rehome, and please consider adoption if you are looking for a new furry family member.

Dear Friends, we regret to announce that we are temporarily closing operations. Due to family commitments and health issues, our very small volunteer team is not able to support the rehoming of any more dogs. When we suspended rehoming last month we continued to receive requests for support almost daily. We understand and feel for community need and for this beautiful breed, but please contact another rescue if you need to rehome your dogs.

Can you help us find a home for the beautiful Rocky? This gorgeously fluffy 5 year old boy has so much potential but his owners are no longer in a position to provide him with the time, structure, and attention he truly needs to thrive.

Rocky has initially barked at some unfamiliar people, but settles once he becomes familiar with the person.

He previously attended a farm based doggy daycare where he interacted positively with a variety of dogs and had no issues in that environment. Rocky dislikes some male dogs so he might do best in a home with no other pets.

Rocky would greatly benefit from continued training, particularly on lead and in situations involving other dogs or unfamiliar people. He is very responsive when given proper guidance and consistency.

And here's more about Oscar. Oscar is a gorgeous four year old White German Shepherd, who needs a new home without another dog or small children. He went to puppy school when young and has been to training school as an adult dog.
Oscar needs an experienced adopter who will give him boundaries and teach him how to settle in the home and on lead and how to behave with new people. He is a beautiful boy with so much potential in the right home.

UPDATE - Harley's owner had made some changes and is going to keep her.
More about Harley. Harley is a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd x Golden Retriever. Harley has grown up with young kids and lives with a cat. She is housetrained and has basic training. She is also super athletic, clearing 5-foot fences with ease, so will need athlete-proof fencing. Think Harley might be the girl for you? Dear German Shepherd loving friends,
It is with sadness that we post we are not able to accept anymore rehome or surrender requests for now. We have 8 dogs waiting for homes (we will post them soon) with more requests pending, but with very few adoption applications. For now, our tiny handful of active volunteers needs to focus now on finding these beautiful fur babies their homes.
We are so very grateful for all our wonderful supporters, but with few active volunteers, this job gets harder when the dogs just keep coming, but the adopters do not.
We understand how much so many are struggling with the cost of living and the housing crisis, and we are so sorry that we can't help out any more families needing to rehome their dogs at the moment. If you need to rehome, please contact another rescue.

Meet Harley. This gorgeous 2-year-old GSD x Golden Retriever loves people, is good with small children and lives with a cat. She can be reactive around other dogs, and is an escape artist, so will need a family with secure fences and a commitment to her ongoing training. He is currently on medication which has not solved his problems.
