Warrondi Engage & Link Day Program, The Salvation Army

Warrondi Engage & Link Day Program, The Salvation Army Our Vision “Walking alongside people, supporting their efforts to sustain a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle”.

Warrondi Engage & Link (WEL) is a new day program offering support and a safe environment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our new program is being launched from the former Towards Independence Supported Accommodation and Recovery Services (West) and the Warrondi Engage and Link (WEL) residential programs site at Whitmore Square. Sadly after over 20 years of running these services

, due to loss of funding these programs have now closed and can no longer provide a residential facility. Fortunately, it is with great relief that we can still provide a service to those in need and assist with their life issues including addiction and mental health. The Warrondi Engage and Link (WEL) program is able to continue to operate as a day program and hopes to provide a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can engage in activities such as music, art, gardening, gym and so on, in a safe environment. This includes workers engaging in supporting clients towards recovery from alcohol and other drug issues through culturally appropriate individual counselling, therapeutic groups and case work. This is a brand-new program, which is the first of its kind being offered from Towards Independence. It is hoped we can be successful in offering support to our First Nations people and others whom are in need. "We acknowledge the First Nations peoples of Australia as the traditional custodians of this land. Particularly the Kaurna peoples whose land we meet on. We further acknowledge and pay our respects to past and present Elders, giving thanks for their wisdom that has sustained their people since the beginning of time, and we pledge to support emerging and future generations."

Stay safe in this heat everyone!! 🥵

Extreme heat can make you feel unwell and may lead to dangerous heat-related illnesses. Symptoms of heat-related illnesses include dizziness, headaches, nausea, thirst, or vomiting.

To stay safe, drink plenty of water and avoid going outside during the hottest parts of the day. Check in on loved ones regularly, especially older adults and pregnant people. Keep cool indoors with a fan or air-conditioner.

Remember to wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and, if you’re going outside, wear a hat, sunglasses and plenty of SPF 50+ sunscreen.
